Valve: Everyone in the UK will be playing Left 4 Dead 2 “by Friday”

Looks like those in the UK wanting physical copies of Left 4 Dead 2 should be able to get one by Friday.
According to a post on Valve’s official blog:
Due to high demand for L4D2, we decided to move various street dates forward for a coordinated worldwide release—except in the UK, where this was not possible (copies of the game are still arriving).
The good news is that we plan to have everyone in the UK playing Left 4 Dead 2 by Friday morning. Those who pre-ordered in the UK before the worldwide launch have been given access to the game.
So there ya have it.

Faliszek: 360 community is “head and shoulders above the PS3″

Valve’s Chet Faliszek has said since the Xbox 360 community is “head and shoulders above the PS3″, it’s one of the reasons that the developer bypasses the Sony console.
“Right now for Left 4 Dead 2 we’re looking at PC and 360 because the community aspects really fit the game – it’s all about playing with your friends,” he said. “But that’s the short term. What we’re looking at for the long term… if it works out, it works out.
“Right now don’t not buy it on the 360 because you think it’s coming out on the PS3 – it’s not going to. Right? It’s coming out on the PC and 360. It’s going to be exclusive for that.
“In hooking up with your friends and the community aspects, I think the Xbox 360 is head and shoulders above the PS3. The 360 and PC are on par, right?”

Valve wants to sell PC L4D2 mods on Live
Valve’s told OXM that it wants to sell mods from the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2 on Xbox Live.
The company won’t be able to give them away because “Xbox Live isn’t set up like that,” so it’s considering distributing content and passing the money back to the creators.
There’s more through there. The game’s out soon.

Exclusive: Depeche Mode in Left 4 Dead 2 is just a way to get their music out

Johnathan Kessler, the manager for Depeche Mode, has told VG247 that the band’s inclusion in Valve’s Left 4 Dead 2 was a way to get their music out to a younger generation.
“There is no storyline in the game with the band, as they do not appear in the game,” Kessler told VG247 exclusively.” Their music was included as a way to get their songs out there, so that the kids can be exposed to it in a way that differs from conventional radio.”
As far as this being a stepping stone for the band to possibly be included in Rock Band or Guitar Hero in the future, Kessler says that there are “no plans for that at this time”.
So, being able to rock out on our plastic guitars to “I Feel You” is not in our future for the present, kiddos.
However, we can console ourselves by shooting zombies in L4D2 to Fletcher, Gahan and Gore’s music instead.

The new Boss infected monster known as “The Jockey” is the third revealed so far and it lets you attack lone Survivors and “wrestle control of their movement away from them-into fire, off ledges, or straight into the middle of a zombie horde.”
Also debuting is the “Zombie Clown,” the “uncommon common” exclusive to the Dark Carnival campaign, and a few more of the “20-plus items coming in the full product (electric guitar, machete, and the American baseball bat being offered as a pre-sell exclusive with select retailers).”

Left 4 Dead: Chet Faliszek talks about Crash Course DLC

Valve’s Chet Faliszek has talked a bit about Left 4 Dead’s upcoming DLC, Crash Course, which was announced yesterday.
This time around, the focus is on Versus Mode.
“It has the co-op Campaign, and also has Survival, but the focus is Versus,” he told Edge. “One of the problems with Versus – well, perhaps it’s not quite a ‘problem’ because there are actually equal player minutes between Versus and co-op – but it’s a two hour game. And we look at our statistics and we see that players ideally want to play between 20 and 30 minutes. So we wanted to create a Versus campaign which you could play through in 30 minutes – a quick competitive thing that slots in between TV shows.
“It’s a two map campaign with a finale, so it’s almost a three map campaign. Obviously if the teams are bad and get wiped quicker then it goes quicker.
“We’ve also added some things – you can now see your teammates’ statuses and their recharge timers. The world also stays exactly the same between team changes, so there are no complaints about it being imbalanced any more. We’ve actually been working on this a bit, but we’re finally close enough that we’re comfortable to talk about it.”
Chet says that Valve is working on how to integrate the DLC with L4D2, and one of the things it has discussed is letting the maps dictate the characters you are playing.
“That’s one of the routes we’ve talked about going, and maybe adding the new creatures, or whatever. There’s a lot of back-and-forth. We haven’t fixed on what we’re doing yet, so we don’t want to talk about it and make people think something is going to happen when we don’t know ourselves.
“We’re still struggling with how interoperability is going to work, right now [with Crash Course]. When we talk about L4D, the story stuff – there’s actually a lot of character dialogue that’s based in each map.”

Latest L4D 2 vid shows new zombies

Below you can see a new video of Valve’s zombie shooter Left 4 Dead 2 that reveals a couple of new zombie classes.
If you can’t be bothered to watch, one new living dead type is the “Spitter” who lobs his gob at you. The phlegm then attacks the area of the body it lands on: kind of like Mustard Gas.
Nice.
Another zombie class is what Valve calls the “common-uncommons” whom are specific to each level. One type is the “mud-men” who appear in the swamp levels.
Thanks to Kotaku. Video below.
Game’s out later this year.
