Kirby celebrates 17th birthday

kirbya2

Nintendo’s Kirby is 17 years old today. The bouncy pink blob made its first appearance in in Japan on April 27, 1992 with Hoshi no Kirby, which released later in the West as Kirby’s Dream Land. Happy Birthday, you daft, weirdy thing.

Celebrate by looking at this GameGirl post of Kirby colouring pages, Kirby cakes and other Kirby “woman” things.

Grand Theft Auto – the Kate Moss Years

dma.jpg

This is awesome. Mike Dailly, one of the original DMA Design staffers, has shared his photo collection from the early days of the studio, which eventually became Rockstar North and took responsibility for that funny Grand Theft Auto Game.

“Mike Dailly, one of the originals from DMA has uploaded several photo sets to Flickr, showing the background daily life of DMA from the early 90′s right through to the point the company became Gremloid/Rockstarred,” said PR stalwart. Brian Baglow.

There’s some amazing stuff in there, including a 3D visualisation of the original GTA, as well as a game called “Kid Kirby”, which never released.

Find the shots here. Thanks to GameSetWatch.

Animal Crossing and Kirby for Wii in 2008

Both titles appear to only be slated for Japanese at the moment, and Nintendo has said nothing of the games releasing in the rest of the world up to now. The Animal Crossing game has previously been rumoured to be a full-blown MMO (yikes) but, again, Nintendo’s said nothing as yet.
