ActiBlizz applies for Sing Hero trademark

If the US government’s Patent and Trademark office’s website is to be believed, Activision’s applied for a trademark for Sing Hero.
Surely it sounds like what it is–a competitor to Sony’s Singstar and Microsoft’s Lips.
Looks as though ActiBlizz bossman Bobby Kotick wasn’t lying during his company’s financial call last month, when he said that five more “Hero” games would be heading our way this year.
Great. More drunken karaoke is in our future.

Lips update gets Avril Lavigne, Olivia Newton John and the Pussycat Dolls

Lips users: here’s a new bit of downloadable music for your karaoke game.
Each tack will run you 160 MS Points ($2) and should be up on XBL as we type:
- Avril Lavigne – My Happy Ending
- Olivia Newton John – Magic
- The Pussycat Dolls/ Snoop Dogg – Buttons
How many people who own this game are actually old enough to remember that Olivia’s offering was from the film Xanadu?
Better yet, how many parents want their kids singing that Pussycat Dolls song?
Not a good line up this week, Microsoft.

Lips gets Alicia Keys, Coldplay and Sarah McLachlan

Lips, Microsoft’s answer to Sony’s SingStar, gets an update today in the form of Alicia Keys, Coldplay, and Sarah McLachlan.
Here’s the list:
- Alicia Keys – Fallin’
- Coldplay – In My Pace
- Sarah McLachlan – Building a Mystery
Alicia and and Coldplay will run you 180 MS Points each ($2.25), and Ms. McLachlan 160 Points ($2).
With such fare to be downloaded, it might be wise to invest in a pair of earplugs.
