Eidos name dropped from publishing, Square pulls rank in Europe and US

It was bound to happen sometime. Eidos owner Square Enix has decided to form a new European entity in Square Enix Europe, to be headed up by current Eidos CEO Phil Rogers – a move which will result in the Eidos publishing brand being “vapourised”.
The amalgamation will result in job losses although precise numbers are unknown as of yet.
“Unfortunately we are expecting some jobs to be impacted directly by this in both Europe and North America,” read a statement from the company.
“We are hoping to minimise this wherever possible and offer support and advice to any employees directly affected.”
In the US all sales, marketing and distribution responsibilities will be transferred from Eidos Inc to the region’s Square Enix office, headed up by John Yamamoto.
Apparently the current Eidos dev studios will still carry the Eidos brand.

Square Enix: “One-console market is over”
Square Enix US boss John Yamamoto has claimed the days of system dominance are done and dusted.
“Not so long ago the PS2 dominated the market so if we developed an exclusive game for PS2 then we could enjoy a very good profit. But that time is already over,” Yamamoto told GI.
“To maximise and spread our games to as many users as possible I think we have to go to multiformat – the Xbox 360, PS3 and also the PC as well.
“The Japanese market is very strong and back when we could concentrate on developing games for just one console, business was very good. But the one-console market is over.”
