Interview: DJ Hero 2′s Jamie Jackson

Activision’s DJ Hero 2 is set to be released later this year, with many gamers and industry pundits alike still on the fence about the potential mass market appeal of the mix-and-mash-em-up dance music game.
While DJ Hero was well received critically when it released late in 2009, with plenty of positive reviews in both the specialist and the lifestyle/dance press, the sales were somewhat lackluster. Despite that, Activision clearly thinks that it can garner a good return on its investment, as developer Freestyle Games has recently announced (and has been showing off) DJ Hero 2, which amongst other new features and additions, will let dance aficionados muck around with two plastic turntables and microphone.

DJ Hero controller doesn’t work with other games
If you were assuming DJ Hero’s controller was going to be an investment eventually usable across multiple games, think again. It isn’t.
“No,” FreeStyle’s Jamie Jackson told Destructoid when asked if the hardware will work with other titles.
“DJ Hero is DJ Hero. If someone needed to use our controller, then they would basically have to rip our game off.”
No Guitar Hero-Rock Band-type cross-overs going on there, then. Granted, the only other DJ game on the way is Scratch: The Ultimate DJ. But still.
DJ Hero costs between £90 and £130. It releases on October 30.

DJ Hero get’s proper gameplay footage and dev demo

There’s an IGN video after the break of Freestyle’s Jamie Jackson talking through DJ Hero coupled with some proper direct feed gameplay footage.
First screens and an official trailer were released this morning, but they didn’t actually show what happens when the game’s rolling.
But this does. So now you know. It’s out in October for PS3, 360, Wii and PS2.
