Speaking at a community day in LA yesterday, community manager James Stevenson said the developer would “support Sony” in helping the development of games, but nothing more, saying “it’s probably not something we would develop in-house.”

A Resistance title is in development for the system, but work has been outsourced to PlayStation Move Heroes developer Nihilistic Software.

Insomniac itself is working on Resistance 3 in Burbank, Callifornia, as well as Ratchet & Clank: All4One at its new Carolina studio for Sony.

It’s also working on an unknown new IP for PS3 and 360, to be published by EA Partners.

NGP is due by the end of the year in Japan.

Thanks, Kotaku.

Details of Resistance 3′s multiplayer have emerged, and fans of previous titles’ large-scale battles are unlikely to be pleased.

“Our biggest motivation in determining our new player-count was the fun times that we and the community had on maps like [Resistance: Fall of Man]‘s Busyard and Rooftops, as well as the Bayou House and San Francisco maps in [Resistance 2],” Insomniac community manager James Stevenson wrote of the dramatic change on the EU PS Blog.

Previous Resistance titles sported multiplayer battles of up to forty and sixty players.

Resistance 3 will sport Human vs Chimera deathmatches as well as various objective-based modes on a variety of settings worldwide.

Stevenson described the game’s character upgrade system as “very deep and customizable”, catering to player’s “unique play style”.

“For instance – each player can choose and level different support abilities – such as a Bubble Shield, Ammo Beacon (give ammo to teammates) or Radar Beacon (enhance your team’s radar),” he wrote.

“There are also tactical abilities you can use against your enemies, such as the Doppelganger (projects an image of you nearby to distract enemies) or Dash (an explosive burst of speed to evade enemy attacks).”

In addition to abilities, players will have the chance to upgrade both a personal and combat “attribute”, including booby-trapping your corpse with leapers.

Stevenson said Insomniac aimed to bring across “the best of both Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2‘s MP and co-op modes”.

A multiplayer beta will begin later this year, with Insomniac urging fans to sign up for the company’s newsletters to be among the first to know the details.

Resistance 3 releases exclusive for PlayStation 3 in early September. See a couple of new images below.

Insomniac has released the first direct feed gameplay footage of Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, featuring commentary from studio director Chad Dezern,

Get it below, courtesy of the US PS Blog.

James Stevenson, community manager at Insomniac, has posted some interesting details on the game over on the US PS Blog as well, and we’ve rounded up some of ‘em below.

We love co-op gameplay, we’re excited to be bringing out a game really designed around co-op in R&C:A4O.

You can play online and make new friends.

I can’t get into features we haven’t announced (for obvious reasons) – I will say the game has tons of plans to make it very very replayable. We have a huge focus on replayability. We’ll reveal a lot of that in the future, but tons of reasons to play the game many times.

We’re focusing on the director’s style camera so we can really make the adventure seem cinematic. If you’re alone and playing online with 3 friends, the camera will bias towards you on your screen a bit, but generally we want you to be able to see you and your friends at all times. The camera will indeed bias towards your character if you are playing online – but it will still be trying to keep your friends on screen as well.

We’re still playing with the HUD.

When you’re playing by yourself you will have an AI Buddy to help you perform all the co-op tasks in the game.

Talwyn, Cronk, and Zephyr all are in the comic series which released this week and you can find in your local comic store. Sasha is back as well. Sasha, Talwyn, and Ratchet… can you say love triangle? A Crack in Time ends the Future story arc. This still is the sequel, and stands alone as a brand new story. The comic books (issue 1 out this week!) help bridge the story from Crack in Time to All 4 One.

If you die during combat, you will have to be revived by other players. We don’t want to punish falling off ledges too much, as it’s really no fun to watch people play the game for long-periods (or for your friends to throw you off the ledge and then you have to wait to get back in)

We have shown very little of the game at this point, and there will certainly be more areas. Furthermore – you can play the game and access all of the content alone (if you so desire).

The best part is this whole game is designed around co-op. We’re having a ton of fun with it in the office.

If all four players are on the couch together, they will ALL be able to sign into PSN and earn trophies and such. There’s definitely a lot of co-op play being layered and designed into the game and other levels. Other elements (like the cluster cannon) require everyone to do it, but also add the competition to see who can do it first.Lots of cool things throughout the game, but I can’t spill the beans yet! 1-4 player online or offline co-op. Drop-in or out. And any combo of online and offline players.

We haven’t announced anything [regarding competitive co-op modes] else at this point! We are really focused on the co-op gameplay right now.

There are two more pages of comments through the link up top, so there may be more information in there for you.

R&C:A4O is slated for fall 2011.

Enjoy the video.

Thanks, Monk.

Insomniac Games’ Community Manager, James Stevenson has confirmed both of the developer’s studios are working on “more then one game” right now.

Stevenson said there was several projects each on the way, with one each in the developer’s California and North Carolina studios.

He, however, didn’t drop any hints as to what they may be.

“Over the last couple of months, the burning question amongst all of our fans out there has been, “what’s going on?” As far as I can remember, this is the longest stretch of time without Insomniac having announced a future project, leaving many of you wondering what exactly we’re up to in the walls of our Burbank and Durham studios,” he said.

“Unfortunately, this blog will not necessarily address your questions. If you’re hoping that I will announce a future title here, you will be disappointed. That will not prevent me from telling you that we are busy working here on some really cool stuff that we can’t wait to show you.

“What we will tell you is that after the launch of A Crack in Time, there was some well-deserved time off for folks. We began to ramp up on other projects, and are currently underway on more than one game right now (which will be no surprise to anyone who knows how our production pipeline works). We’ve been trying to evolve our production pipeline to give us more time for iteration, as well as better efficiencies along the way,” he further added.

A “surprise Sony sequel” is set to be revealed in the latest episode of GameTrailers TV tomorrow. Could it be Resistance 3? We’ll see yet, kiddlewinks.

Insomniac Games community head James Stevenson has admitted he sees FFXIII on PS3 as “superior” to the 360 version.

His comment came as he praised SCEA’s Q1 line-up for this year. He said in a tweet:

“PS3 is having a rockin’ 1st q: MAG, Heavy Rain, White Knight Chronicles, and soon MLB10:The Show, GOWIII and the superior version of FFXIII“

But he wasn’t off on a fanboy spree. Instead, he was also full of praise for BioWare’s Mass Effect 2. Not so much love for Wii, mind.

“Fair enough, the 360 also got Mass Effect 2, now one of my all-time favorites from this gen. Plenty of good gaming. Except on Wii.”

Last night, the first ten minutes of FFXIII in English got out, while Square officially released new videos showing the collector’s edition for both PS3 and 360.

Game’s out on March 9, two weeks today.

From Examiner.

Speaking with Videogamer, Insomniac’s James Stevenson has revealed that they are now so familiar, they can do “tricks” with the PS3.

Can you teach it to sit? Fetch? Roll over? Thought not. But Stevenson did say:

“After we get it off and running and we have a game or two released, three, four years into the lifecycle of consoles is where it starts to get exciting. Now we know how to ride that bicycle and we can start performing tricks on it.”

Stevenson also revealed how they had to rebult the Ratchet & Clank series for the PS3 after the series’ PS2 illiterations.

“We had to rebuild Ratchet for PS3. All that stuff we took for granted: the move set, the animations, the character, the crates, everything that works on PS2, had to be redone for PS3.”

Find more through the link. Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time is out in the US now, while the game gets an EU/UK release this week

Sony Japan used to be rubbish at listening to western punters concerns about PS3. No longer, according to Insomniac senior community manager James Stevenson.

“The challenge has always been that the [PS3] operating system (XMB) has always been developed in Japan, and at first it didn’t seem like it reacted to the US and European markets,” Stevenson told CVG. “But now it seems like there’s a far better feedback loop in place, which I think was the biggest issue.

“The example that stands out was when they did the update to the look of the XMB – version 3.0 I think. They boxed out everyone’s names and it became really clunky-looking and the community started complaining. I feel like that feedback really made it over to Japan, and that’s something they’re trying to get addressed.

“Two years ago, or a year-and-a-half ago, I don’t feel like there was that kind of response. I now really think that the development group that’s working on PSN is really listening to the community more, and listening to development feedback. So that’s a good thing in the long term, and that was the biggest thing I’m glad to see has been fixed.”

Phew. Glad that’s cleared up.

James Stevenson, senior community manager for Insomniac, has predicted that it could take up to three years before developers max out PS3.

“There’s always ways we can become more efficient. The PlayStation platforms are built with a very high ceiling and I think that’s part of the success Sony has had in creating these platforms with really long life spans,” Stevenson told CVG.

“The PS3 still feels like a young system and I feel like it’s finally hitting its prime. You’ve got the Slim, it’s at a good price point now and sales are really picking up.

“I still think you’re not going to see the PS3 really maxed out for another two to three years. We’re using all of the PS3 right now, but you can always be more efficient in the way you use it.”

Speaking in an interview with Videogamer, Insomniac communinty manager James Stevenson has said that fan feedback with Resistance 2 “was like your dog turned on you.”

The game was released at the end of November last year, even recieving a 87 from Metacritic. But despite that, Stevenson admits it was a “failure” on the fans part.

“The hardcore fans of Resistance 1 were maybe a little bit disappointed. Those folks consistently expressing that – especially GAF, it was like your dog turned on you.

“That’s the feeling of it. You had this dog that loved you. You loved the dog, too, but they expressed all this affection for you. And then suddenly the dog bites your hand and it’s that feeling of, ooh, ow, that really hurts.

The critics loved Resistance 2. Some people didn’t like it, but for the most part… And the Metacritic’s higher than Resistance 1. So we got better reviews than Resistance 1, but the overall opinion of it is that it was a failure by fans, that Resistance 2 was a failure, because maybe the expectations were so high for it,” said Stevenson.

Well then, fan service all the way for Resistance 3, then.

Insomniac Games have been talking about their brand new game during the latest episode of their podcast, Full Moon Show.

A couple of staffers from the developer teased about the game, including community manager, Bryan Intihar and community relations manager, James Stevenson.

“We’re not gonna tell you what they’re working on but we can say we saw it and it’s really awesome,” said Intihar. And as for Stevenson:

“Really good first playable. A lot of fun, a lot of potential and a long way off still.”

This is rumoured to be the project that is in development at their brand new North Carolina studio. The California studio is working on Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time. Obviously.

Thanks, TSA.

Joystiq’s backed up a claim we were told last night that Firmware 2.70 will release this week, reporting that Resistance 2′s upcoming patch and the hardware update will arrive together, most likely today or tomorrow.

“Resistance 2 is the first game to fully log-in two PSN accounts. LBP only logs you in locally, and does not register both accounts as online through PSN,” Insomniac Games’ James Stevenson told the site.

“This is a big difference, and what is required for split-screen online co-op with other folks.

“And it was dependent on a Sony update, hence why it wasn’t in when the game shipped.”

The Resistance 2 patch launches tomorrow. Hold onto your hats, Firmware fans.
