Sega posts quarterly profit, 51% sales increase in spite of weak Alpha Protocol and Iron Man 2 sales

Nintendo nose-dived. Capcom cratered. The Japanese gaming industry seems to be doing its best impression of a horror movie right now, and the mere mention of Sega already has us hiding behind our couch, cringing in anticipation. So then, what are we waiting for? Here comes the carnage…!
Huh? A profit?

Marvel finished with “crappy” movie-based games

The executive vice president of the digital media end of Marvel, Ira Rubenstein, has told Joystiq that Marvel is finished with making “crappy” movie-based games.
Still, it would like to have games tied to the release of movies, but each character will stay in his/her own little world and used the lastest Marvel game X-Men Origins: Wolverine as an example.
“We are not doing movie-based games anymore,” said Rubenstein. “Actually, wait … we are not doing crappy movie-based games anymore. You can quote me on that.”
Rubenstein told the site that Iron Man 2 has been in the works since the first game was finished, and since he was not involved with it, not to blame him for the quality.

Video and details surface for Iron Man 2

Sega has announced that Matt Fraction will be creating the storyline for the Iron Man 2 game based on the movie, and it promises to delve deeper into the comic world of our big red hero.
“Iron Man 2 presented me with the challenge and opportunity to work with both SEGA and Marvel on creating something wholly unique- a story that exists at the cross-roads of the comic I write, the film universe which I was lucky enough to be asked to contribute to, and a wholly- immersive interactive experience like a game,” said Fraction via press release.
“A game presents an entirely new challenge, where the audience/consumer/player engages with the world, with the big and small aspects of the place and characters. They’re a co-conspirator in the narrative. I hope it’s as exciting and challenging to play as it was to write.”
The game is expected to be released close to the film in spring 2010 for DS, PSP, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360.
