Apple may introduce new iPad sizes in 2012

overview_performance_20110302

Despite the roaring success of the iPad, Apple apparently still thinks they can do better. One plan reportedly on the table is to introduce a new iPad option with a reduced screen size. Thaiwanese tech site digitimes cited unnamed sources who told them that Apple would be purchasing 7.85 inch panels from LG Display.

The new device is said to be launching in March or April of next year, citing unnamed sources “in the supply chain.” According to the reports, this iPad will not replace the mainstay model, but will instead be a cheaper option to the iPad 2.

Peggle HD hits iPad, immediately goes on sale

peggle

In its continued conquest to monopolize the entire world’s supply of free time, Peggle’s launching a diabolical silver ball at yet another platform. This time, it’s your iPad that’s become a gateway to PopCap’s empire of maniacal compulsion. Still on the fence? Well then, how about a sale to coax you down? Peggle HD‘s currently $2.99 (or £1.99), to which PopCap enthusiastically tweeted: “That’s a price drop!” Ah yes, the most tempting words in the English language. Music to our miserly ears.

Square Enix announces Chaos Rings prequel, sequel for iOS

ChaosRings_2

Despite what you may believe, Square Enix’s iOS lineup isn’t wall-to-wall with wallet-gobbling ports. Among the (still pretty darn expensive) gems is Chaos Rings, a gorgeous original JRPG that’s seen massive iOS success. And now, the twist: Square Enix has decided – hoo boy, it’s a wild one – to make more games.

First Dead Space 2 iPhone trailer pops out, shouts “boo,” repeats

deadspaceipad

EA’s released a trailer of its iThing iteration of Dead Space, and we’d be lying if we said we weren’t impressed. Classic Dead Space dismemberment and visceral swipe-based melee attacks are at the top of the menu today, resulting in a tiny game that looks to pack a pretty big punch.

The trailer is, however, missing any real downtime, so it’s tough to judge how well Dead Space’s suffocating “outer space is trying to murder me” atmosphere holds up. See the full thing for yourself after the break.

Fishlabs CEO: iPad and other “mobile devices” will surpass Xbox 360 graphics in a year

ipad2

Remember when you first booted up Tekken on your PlayStation One, and your eyes welled up with tears as you declared that graphics would never get any better than that? Remember when your PS2 – and even your itsy-bitsy PSP – none-too-gently booted your PS1 into the retirement home?

Well, according to mobile game dev Fishlabs CEO Michael Schade, the Xbox 360′s about to receive some similarly stiff competition – from the iPad, of all things.

Nintendo not afraid of Apple? Maybe it should be, says survey

iPadpic_1

Portable gaming is Nintendo. Whether you’re spending your morning commute with a PSP, Nintendo DS, or Neo-Geo Pocket (RIP), to most passers-by, that little slab of plastic in your hands is a Gameboy. And oh, hey, 129 million sales. Nintendo’s throne is unassailable, right?

But we can remember a time when console gaming was the same way. “Wanna play Nintendo? Etc.” And according to a survey by Morgan Stanley’s Katy Huberty, Nintendo might be well served by remembering how that whole thing turned out.

Analysts not too thrilled about iPad’s gaming prospects

iPadpic_1

Based off the Internet’s current state, the iPad announcement is the only thing that happened today. At all. Everything else – war, politics, Tiger Woods – was put on hold so that we could all watch Steve Jobs trot out a new Shiny Thing.

But what’s that mean for the wide world of videogames? Not much, actually, if analysts Michael Pachter and Jesse Divnich are to be believed.
