Forza 3 second disc install takes four minutes – video

forza37

Installing Forza 3′s second disc, essential if you’re going to get the game’s full experience, takes around four minutes: watch the video after the break as proof.

The extra DVD contains 1.9Gb of data, such as car packs, tracks and environments.

If you don’t have enough space on your 360′s drive, the game asks you which car packs you want to install. You won’t see that in this movie as we’d cleared out a bunch of stuff beforehand.

Look and see. This was grabbed from the retail version, which releases on October 23.

Recent games won’t feel as much speed benefit from HD 360-install

gotham3.jpg

Xbox Germany product manager Boris Schneider-Johne has claimed that newer Xbox 360 games won’t gain much load-time benefit installing them to the console’s hard drive as they’ve already been “optimised.”

We now allow the customer to install games on their hard drive,” he said, speaking to Golem.de in an interview translated by GamersGlobal.

“This is optional, you don’t have to do it. But if I do it, these games will load faster because a DVD-drive with seek operation does have load times every now and then. There are prominent examples, for instance: Project Gotham Racing 3, one of the first games for the Xbox 360. There the load times have been very long; those are going to get reduced immensely.

Recent games are already optimized; there the gain is relatively small.”

The option to install games to 360′s drive will be included in the New Xbox Experience dashboard update, rumoured to be launching in November.

Loading times aside, installing games to the drive does definitely mean you don’t have to listen to your console’s disc drive trying to lift off. Which will be nice.

BioShock PS3 has 5Gb, 10-minute mandatory install

bioshock14.jpg

The PS3 version of BioShock has a 5Gb mandatory install that takes a little over 10 minutes to complete.

While the game’s trundling onto your hard drive, your TV shows your Rapture ads and plays a little piano music.

The game was rumoured to have a sizable install after the BBFC rated the game back in July, but 2K commented at the time that it was likely to have an install of “around 5 or 6 minutes” at most, according to this DarkZero report.

The news comes from the new Eurogamer playtest we linked to earlier.

BioShock releases for PS3 on October 24.

PS3 Fallout 3 has no mandatory install

According to this Game Reviews piece, Bethesda’s confirmed that the PS3 version of Fallout 3 won’t need a hard drive install.

“We do not do that, no. We do the put you know, put the stuff down there that we need to be there, we can stream it on in and out of there but we do not do the ‘we need ten minutes of your time,’” an unnamed spokesperson told the site.

“We will cache the same way on both (Xbox 360 and PS3) we basically just like everybody you know if you have a hard drive, it does this.”

More through the link. Thanks, James!

PS3 GTA IV has five-minute “mandatory install”, 360 version’s is optional?

gtaiva2.jpg

This could be very funny. “Skip” – Andrew Pfister, the writer of 1up’s GTA IV preview – has posted on Neogaf saying that the PS3 version of GTA IV features a five-minute mandatory install. Unsurprisingly, teh internets have gone grade A crackers for it.

We’re also reliably informed this morning that the 360 version features an “optional install” as well. We’ll drop Rockstar a note asking for confirmation.
