Zodiac Assassin was a PS3 title in the concept phase during 2005 and was passed over by Sony for Ninja Theory’s Heavenly Sword instead, according to an online portfolio belonging to a Sony Cambridge art director. The game had a Kill Bill-style vibe to it, and the female lead was a master of disguise who would travel to various locales such as Japan, Mexico, and Turkey. Head on through the link for a look at the concept art. Thanks, Siliconera.

Ninja Theory co-founder Tameem Antoniades has told Eurogamer that while making Heavenly Sword, the development team felt caught in the middle of the console war.
Antoniades said that the situation was both “draining” and “unfair”.
“When you are exclusive, sometimes the pressure to demonstrate technology can override other aspects of game development,” he said. “Being involved in one side of a format war as if it’s the machines that make great games can also be draining.
“You get a lot of attention as an exclusive developer which is great, but on the flip side there was a lot of anti-Sony feeling going on which I felt was unfairly being directed at our team.”
Currently, the developer is at work on multiplatform title Enslaved, which has a post-apocalyptic setting. Antoniades calls the move to multiplatform “comfortable” as the team can now focus on just “building as compelling a game as we can”.

According to this, Ninja Theory is not developing a Heavenly Sword sequel, and is instead creating a new IP for 360 and PS3. The game is already signed to a publisher.
The UK developer is also considering creating a CGI movie to stand alongside the new title.
“We’re certainly targeting a triple-A blockbuster, with two and a half years in production – a big game that builds on our core strengths of story-telling, cinematics and combat. But we’re actually looking at something in addition to that – we’re considering opportunities in creating a CGI movie using the game engine alongside the game itself,” said studio boss Nina Kristensen.
The Heavenly Sword IP is owned by Sony: there’s no word as yet as to whether or not a sequel will be released.

Ninja Theory has posted some new concept art on its website, hinting at its first title since fighting-adventure, Heavenly Sword.
“Right now we’re working on an exciting new concept that has got everyone we talk to buzzing,” the Ninja Theory team posted. “We can’t say a lot except that it’s going to be great to work on and should be even better to play!”
The art looks green and… arty. More on this soon, probably.
