Ninja Theory: “We get along just fine with Sony”

Ninja Theory founder Nina Kristensen has told CVG that talk of bitterness between the developer and Sony isn’t true. Never saw that coming.

“We get along just fine with Sony,” she said.

The statement comes after a rumour yesterday that Heavenly Sword 2 – which has never been developed by Ninja Thoery – had been axed by Sony Cambridge and the developer was moving offices partly due to tensions between the two companies.

“It is true that we’re moving,” she said. “We move mid July and have been planning it for the best part of a year, there’s nothing nefarious about it. We are excited about the move – our new premises are considerably bigger and in an excellent location near the town centre.”

A Ninja Theory staffer has already responded to the rumours, posting on NeoGaf.

Ninja Theory responds to Heavenly Sword 2 rumour

Posting over at NeoGaf, a Ninja Theory staffer has responded to the earlier Kotaku rumour concerning the canning of Heavenly Sword 2.

“We (Ninja Theory) never started work on HS2 as we wanted to focus on new multiplatform IP. Sony owns the IP for HS and we have never been privy to what they would do with it,

As for moving, we have been planning to move to larger premises for future expansion for the best part of a year. There is nothing bitter about the move.

And the rumour that the team has been disbanded is ridiculous. We have had an unbelievably loyal team especially as we went through some difficult times securing a new publishing deal. We have a new publisher and are busy on our new project which is going very well so far.

HS is far from our thoughts at the moment.

Tameem

So that’s that.

Thanks, Psychotext.

Ninja Theory tests the water on Heavenly Sword 2

According to this, Ninja Theory has been focus testing aspects of Heavenly Sword 2 in Chicago.

“They initially asked for video game background, then they had a follow-up phone call asking which games I had played or owned, focusing heavily on Heavenly Sword,” said one guy involved with the activity. “There were three surveys done on Monday, groups of six for the first two, four for the last group (my group). Predominantly males, asking about our impressions on Prince of Persia, God of War, Ninja Gaiden and, of course, Heavenly Sword. Some questions were asked about why Heavenly Sword didn’t sell so well, what our impressions were on the gameplay, how the cutscenes were done, combat mechanics.”

There’s more through the link. It’s already known a sequel to the PS3 title is in the works.
