Hawken dev diary shows off ‘Front Line’ map
Hawken developer Adhesive Games has published a new dev diary clip, this time showing off a map called Front Line, and discussing how the locale plays out during matches.

Hawken update includes Facility map, gameplay balancing, interface improvements, more
Hawken’s latest update has gone live, and includes the latest map, Facility, which send pilots back to the Illalian desert which contains structures unblemished by the Hawken virus. Facility is a “pristine, functioning installation” and was previously available to play in the open beta as an unskinned test map. Along with the map, the update contains new customizations, gameplay balancing, and interface improvements. You can view the list of patch notes through the official website, and have a look at the new map through a video and screens below.

Hawken trailer shows off multiplayer environmental destruction
Here’s something a bit experimental from GDC – a PhysX tech demo of environmental destruction in Hawken’s multiplayer, powered by GPU Rigid Bodies. There’s some debate over whether this could actually work on current network architecture or if it is naught but a beautiful dream, but the idea of mechs destroying the ground underneath each other to create new paths is pretty sweet. Hawken February update adds holiday-themed skins
Hawken has added five new mech customisation items in celebration of events this month. Two dragon-themed camouflage skins celebrate Lunar New Year along with a new thruster, while Valentine’s Day has produced some laughably cute skins. You can rent the skins for free until February 19, but if you’d like to have access to them beyond that, you’ll need to pony up before February 26.

Hawken opens local Australian, Japanese and Singaporean servers
Hawken publisher Meteor and developer Adhesive Games have opened servers for Australian, Japanese and Singaporean gamers. Ausgamers reports these new destinations aren’t just dedicated servers located in the US, but properly hosted local offerings. You can get on board your closest server from the drop-down regional menu in the matchmaking menu. What’s that? You’re not in the closed beta? Oh gosh, I tripped and fell and spilled a bunch of keys everywhere. So clumsy. Hawken launches on December 12.
