Bungie gives a peek at maps included on disc with ODST

odst

The maps Citadel, Heretic and Longshore are three maps you’ll find packed into the Halo 3 multiplayer disc included with Halo 3: ODST.

Bungie has provided large pictures from each over on the official site.

Here’s the details for the maps, straight from the site:

  • Citadel may be a long abandoned Forerunner stronghold, but its small, symmetrical confines are far from secure. Two opposing bases offer little safety for players looking for solace. Instead, Citadel forces small squads to stay in constant communication, keep their heads on a swivel, and be prepared to adjust combat tactics in close quarters.
  • Heretic returns players to familiar ground as the Halo 2 arena “Midship” . The stark interior of the Pious Inquisitor might appear austere on first glance, but Heretic’s symmetrical spaces require players to execute complex strategies in order to outplay their opponents.
  • Longshore lacks the commercial ships that once made it a lucrative port for Old Mombasa, but it still bustles with activity. Designed for large scale combat and well suited for smaller affairs, Longshore’s multitude of industrial buildings, elevated walks, and open inlets conspire to create a complex battleground tailored for multiple combat scenarios.

Halo 3 and Halo Wars sell between 57,000 and 74,000 units in April

halo34

Killzone 2 may have sold 58,000 units in the US during the month of April, but according to recent NPD numbers, Halo 3 may have outsold it.

A report from Gamasutra divulges that Halo 3 and Halo Wars sold somewhere between 57,000 and 74,000 units a piece.

While exact figures for each were lacking in the report, it’s seems likely that Halo 3 likely topped 58,000 units but then again it could easily have been Halo Wars.

Halo 3 Campaign kills hit 10 billion

halologoa

Bungie’s confirmed the patently ridiculous fact that more than 10 billion Campaign kills have now been made in Halo 3.

The “milestone” has been reached in 565 days.

That means 17,500,000 Covenant have been killed daily since the game launched. That’s 730,000 killed per hour. Or 12,000 Covenant troops killed per minute.

halo3a2

An Arstechnica source has claimed that a new Xbox 360 Elite bundle is to hit stores complete with Fable 2 and Halo 3.

The package will cost $400, apparently, which is the going rate for the standalone console – meaning the games are free.

Microsoft will supposedly be announcing the bundle over the next week.

Halo 3′s Mythic Map Pack goes live

halo3

The Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack is now live, Microsoft just confirmed.

Blurb:

The long-awaited Mythic Map Pack drops into Xbox LIVE Marketplace. Investigate Orbital’s abandoned hallways – before it was evacuated, the Quito Space Tether was heralded as the “Civil Engineering Monument of the Millennium.” Witness Assembly, where Scarab hulls loom overhead, being decontaminated in preparation for the city-sized Lekgolo colonies that will breathe life into the massive metal husks. An excavation site surrounded by deadly Forerunner defenses, the mysteries of Sandbox are hidden high above, deep below, and right before your eyes.

It’s 800 MS Points to you, Mr Chief.

Halo 3: ODST really is the end of Halo 3, says Bungie

halo3a3

Bungie has said there are “no plans” for it to produce Halo 3 content beyond Orbital Drop Shock Trooper.

This is in response to Allen Murray’s comment this week that the studio would be working on Halo 3 content for two more years.

“We’ll never say never, but currently Bungie has no plans to make new Halo 3 content beyond the release of ODST,” Bungie told Eurogamer.

“We will, however, continue to support the Halo 3 online experience with regular updates to matchmaking playlists and wield the Banhammer as needed.

“With Forge and the Mythic map Sandbox we’re already seeing the community stepping up to create some great new maps and gametypes that will offer more variety and longevity to the game down the road.

The future of Halo 3 online will become more and more defined by the people who play it,” added the developer.

Halo 3: ODST is expected sometime this fall.

Wii Fit trumps Halo 3 sales in less than a year

masterchief

Wii Fit will be one year old this May, and has already surpassed Halo 3 in US sales.

According to NPD numbers released yesterday, as of February 2009 the Nintendo title has sold 6 million copies in the US alone.

Halo 3′s sold 5.9 million since September 2007.

With such an influx of balance boards out there, Kotaku is quick to point out that developers will probably be lined up around the block to make games for it.

We’re not arguing.

Bungie teases something for April 9

halo3a2

Bungie’s included “P.S. 04/09/09″ at the end of its weekly update, which almost certainly points to the release date of Halo 3′s Mythic Map Pack.

That said, it’s Bungie. So we may get something new on Halo: ODST. Or not. Who knows?

Bungie does.

Thanks, IGN.

McGill – PGR4, Mass Effect and Halo 3 are “perennial” games

masseffecta5

Xbox UK head Steve McGill’s told MCV that PGR4, Mass Effect and Halo 3 – the latest three games to be included in 360′s Classics range – are “perennial” titles. He may well be right.

“These latest three additions are some of the very biggest and best blockbuster games available on any platform,” he said.

“Classics as you’d expect don’t normally generate the kind of pre-orders you’d see on triple-A new releases, and are instead steady, valuable and evergreen titles that we know customers will perennially be interested in and will continue to engage with.”

The titles are now £20 a pop in the UK.

Halo 3, Mass Effect, PGR4 added to 360 Classics

halo3a1

Microsoft said this morning that Halo 3, Mass Effect and Project Gotham Racing 4 will all be £20 in Europe’s Classics range as of this Friday.

Cheap.

The company also reiterated that Xbox 360 has now sold more than 8 million consoles in Europe.

Marketing head David Gosen said the machine had “sailed past” the milestone in the region.

“As we see more and more families looking to save money by staying in, Xbox 360 continues to offer high-quality home entertainment at fantastic value and consumers,” he said.

Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack: Bungie talks haunted houses and zombies

halo3spookyhouse

Today’s offering? A haunted house and zombies.

The Sandbox map will contain a haunted dwelling called “Spooky House,” and it’s filled to the brim with flesh-hungry zombies. Exciting.

Loads more is through the link including a Q&A with the map’s creator, Shay.

More Master Chief may be in Halo’s future

halo3a

Frank O’Connor has hinted to USA Today that there may be more of Master Chief in Halo’s future.

Speaking mainly about Halo 3: ODST being more than just an add-on, Frank let slip something about the hero of the Halo saga.

“I doubt we have seen the last of Master Chief,” he said.

Going back to ODST, he went continued:

“It’s a lot of game. You play the game through the point of view of an ODST. They are dropped into combat from orbit. They have a rivalry with the Spartans that is well known to the fans of the fiction. We finally let you into their boots as it were. …It’s kind of a detective story in a way. But it is much more action-packed than that.”

Halo 3 sees billionth game played

halo3a

More than 1 billion games of Halo 3 have been played, according to this Bungie blog post. That’s more than we have fingers and toes, so it’s a bit beyond us.

“Saturday night, while many of us were stuffing food into our faces, plenty of folks were still playing Halo 3,” said the firm in the update.

“At precisely 6.36pm PST, in a three minute and nineteen second game of Infection on Foundry, four players participated in Halo 3′s one billionth match.”

That’s ridiculous, whichever way you cut it. There’s some more silly figures through the link.
