Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez is keen to tckle the adventures of Gordon Freeman, according to a Yahoo Movies report. “I really want to make a Half-Life movie at some point – but I’d heard it was impossible because Spielberg wanted to make it. That’s definitely one that I’ve always dreamed of making into a movie though,” the Panic Attack creator said. It looks like JJ Abrams has pipped him at the post, though.

Valve has announced the Linux client for Steam is now available with 50 Linux titles on sale for 50-75% off until Wednesday, February 21. You can grab the client from the Ubuntu Software Center. Team Fortress 2 is also now available on Steam for Linux and for a limited time, users will automatically receive a free in-game item: Tux, the Linux mascot. It’s the penguin. Additional Valve titles available on Steam for Linux include Half-Life, Counter-Strike 1.6, and Counter-Strike: Source, Big Picture, and access to the Steam for Linux Community Hub.

Valve has released Linux versions of Half-Life, Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Source on Steam. Steam’s Linux client, which is designed for use with Ubuntu, now boasts support for 93 titles and DLC packages, including Crusader Kings II, Serous Sam 3, FTL, Waveform, Trine 2 and Dungeons of Dredmor.

Valve founder Gabe Newell has given an hour-long lecture about his company’s creation, the state of the games industry and insight into its various games and tools. Newell discussed all of this and more at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas yesterday, and it’s a very interesting chat that touches on the issue of productivity in the PC market and the shipping of the original Half-Life.

Half-Life has finally been released for Linux and Mac, and is now available through Steam for $9.99. At the moment it only shows a Windows logo – at least on our end – but Cult of Mac has confirmed the news is legitimate. Also, the orginal Counter Strike is available for Linux and Mac as well (thanks, Fin). Go nuts Mac boys and girls.

Half-Life may be considered by many to be a true innovation of in gaming, but the game was – understandably – not always as pristine and cutting edge as it was when it released in 1998. Alpha footage of the game in its early stages reveals a different side to the game, and better yet, you can play the alpha build for yourself.

Half-Life isn’t getting a movie adaptation any time soon – if at all – so don’t get too excited. However, Valve writer Marc Laidlaw has billed Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy director Guillermo Del Toro as the perfect man for the job, should it ever happen. Over to you Gabe.
