According to this USA Today piece, Guitar Hero 5 owners will be allowed to import up to 35 Guitar Hero: World Tour tracks to their new game. For a charge.

“Immediately, players can import 35 songs from Guitar Hero World Tour for 280 points on Xbox Live and $3.50 on the PlayStation Network,” said the article.

“Later this fall, songs from Guitar Hero Smash Hits can be imported, too.”

Guitar Hero 5 ships on September 11. Just checking this with Acti now.

Activision has told D’toid that Guitar Hero 5 downloadable content is not compatible with World Tour.

This does not mean,though, that it will not be compatible with other Hero titles.

“Guitar Hero 5 downlodable content will be compatible with future Guitar Hero and Band Hero games,” a rep told the site. “However, the advancements and innovations made to the franchise do now allow for downloadable content to be backwards compatible with Guitar Hero World Tour.”

Previously purchased DLC is compatible, and it’s also possible to export songs from Guitar Hero World Tour and Smash Hits to play in Guitar Hero 5. But, you will need to download tracks with the updated Guitar Hero 5 features.

Activision’s doling out the preorder offers for Guitar Hero 5.

As you know, in the US you’ll get GH: Van Halen free when you preorder, but now comes word that UK gets World Tour for free.

All you have to do is preorder the Guitar Hero 5 Guitar Bundle to get the game. Mind you, it’s the game only.

If you hadn’t heard, Guitar Hero 5′s set to finally include a song importing feature. This means that your golden oldies from GH: World Tour and GH: Smash Hits can be transferred to GH5, which is obviously pretty cool. So, how’s it going to work? Joystiq recently got the full scoop.

On Xbox 360 and PS3, you’ll simply need to download a free update to enable song imports, followed by a “nominal re-licensing fee” to rip songs from each disc. Ripped tunes will be stored on the hard drive.

On the Wii, the song remains mostly the same, but system’s lack of a hard drive complicates things a bit. Songs will have to be re-downloaded, either to the Wii’s internal memory or an SD card.

In both cases, songs will be updated to include GH5′s suite of rockin’ new features.

Interestingly, only 152 of a total 158 tracks will be able to make the jump. Our guess? Licensing issues.

Acti Blizz has reported that over 34 million songs have been downloaded for the Guitar Hero franchise, and over 14 million bits of user-created content have been made through Guitar Hero: World Tour.

The company, speaking in its Q1 earnings call today, said that because of the popularity of music games, the genre is now an integral part of the company’s long term expansion plans.

Because of the demand, DJ Hero is being released to give gamers wanting a variety in music something else to play in their living rooms.

During the conference call, we think it was mentioned that more people buy music through the game than any other form of media. We’ll check the transcript when it is released to make sure, so don’t quote us just yet.

One thing that is a positive – more Guitar Hero and other rhythm-based games are in Acti Blizz’s future with a bomb.

Three new downloadable track packs are coming to Guitar Hero: World Tour from Ferret Music, Metal Blade Records, P!nk, Angels & Airwaves and OneRepublic.

On May 7, three free tracks are coming with the  Ferret/Metal Blade Track Pack which includes the Devil Wears Prada’s “Dez Moines”,  Chimaira’s  “On Broken Glass,” and Unearth’s “Grave of Opportunity”.

The Pop Rock Track Pack hits on May 14, and features P!nk’s “So What,” OneRepublic’s “Stop and Stare” and “Everything’s Magic” from Angels & Airwaves for 440 Microsoft Points ($5.49).

European Track Pack number five arrives on May 21 with Swedish Metal band In Flames’ “Disconnected”, French rock band Housse de Racket with “Oh Yeah!” and Cody ChesnuTT’s “Look Good in Leather” all for 440 Microsoft Points ($5.49).

Each song from the track packs will also run you 160 MS Points ($1.99) should you not want the entire pack, and 200 Wii points for Nintendo users.

Three Motörhead tracks were just released for Guitar Hero: World Tour, according to this Major post.

Iron Fist, Jail Bait and Love Me Like a Reptile are all up on Live now. They’re 160 points each.

Guitar Hero fans are being asked to cast their votes onlineto determine the order songs will be revealed for Guitar Hero: Smash Hits.

It’s no longer titled Greatest Hits, in case you didn’t notice.

As per headline, Activision has revealed its DLC list for April that includes Pixies, Nirvana and Motörhead.

The Pixies tracks include the seminal Debaser and Monkey Gone to Heaven, whilst the Nirvana tracks are Very Ape, Sappy & Stay Away.

If you like strumming you bass guitar then you can sing along with Lemmy to Jailbait, Love Me Like a Reptile and Iron Fist.

Gamasutra has figured out the sales of all three versions of Guitar Hero: World Tour, namely the standalone game, the complete bundle and the guitar bundle.

From October 2008 to January 2009, the full band kit was purchased by 41 percent of buyers, the guitar bundle by 35 percent, and the standalone game by 24 percent.

Breaking the three offerings down by sales during the same time-frame, the full band kit raked in 61 percent of the profits, while the guitar bundle earned 27 percent and the standalone version pulled in 11 percent.

• Jimi Hendrix Track Pack 2 consists of Freedom, Angel, and Foxy Lady (live from Woodstock).
• On this day, Wii users will be able to download the first Hendrix track pack as individual songs for 200 points. The songs If 6 was 9, Little Wing, and Fire are already available for PS3 and Xbox 360 owners.

March 26 – Queen Track Pack

Each track pack will cost you 440 MS Points, or $5.49 on PSN.

All songs, except for the ones featured in the second Hendrix pack, will be available individually for 160 MS points and $1.99 on PSN, and 200 points on Wii.

There are no plans for a patch to allow the use of wireless Lips microphones in Guitar Hero World Tour, Activision confirmed to VG247 today.

It was announced last year that Rock Band would be patched to support the peripherals.

Guitar Hero World Tour comes with a wired microphone that doesn’t even have jazzy flashing lights at the base.

So we all lose.

Guitar Hero: World Tour gets a dose of Wings today for both PS3 and 360.

Tracks from the Paul and Linda McCartney band encompass various albums and include Jet, Hi Hi Hi, and Junior’s Farm.

Each will run you 160 MS Points ($2.00) or 440 ($5.50) for the track pack.

Activision has just unveiled just what songs you can download for Guitar Hero World Tour in February. As the headline states, Wings will be there, along with Incubus and Ryan Adams. The magic doesn’t end there however, as we’re promised songs from The Shins and Bob Seger.

There are three track packs to choose from:

February 12 (“Acoustic Track Pack”)

• Incubus – “Drive”
• The Shins – “New Slang”
• Ryan Adams – “Wonderwall” (cover)

February 19 (“Wings Track Pack”)

• Wings – “Junior’s Farm”
• Wings – “Hi Hi Hi”

Major Nelson informs us that a Guitar Hero World Tour song bundle containing tunes from Australian artists, aptly titled ‘The Aussie Track Pack’, is now available for download.

As per the norm, the track pack costs 440 MS Points and individual tracks from Aussie artists like Wolfmother and The Vines cost 160 Points each.

The Major has announced that Guitar Hero: World Tour owners can download the Travis Barker Track Pack today for 440 MS Points or 160 Points per song.

Drummer Barker is best known for his work with US neu-Punk group, Blink 182.

Activision Blizzard has announced that Bruce “The Boss” Springsteen is heading to Guitar Hero World Tour with an a two track pack that includes new single My Lucky Day, and the all time classic of all time, Born to Run.

The content will be released alongside his new album, Working on a Dream on January 27.

“Activision has been a leader in getting music to the public in new ways and we are very happy to have them making these two songs available to their audience,” Springsteen’s longtime manager Jon Landau said.

As for price, if you grab it early – namely between Jan 27 and Feb 4 – it’ll be free of charge. After that, the track pack will cost 320 MS Points or roughly £3.49 from PSN.

The Activision shooter’s looking good for Christmas number one, although FIFA refuses to drop off, taking third place this week.

Guitar Hero as a franchise is “reaching its peak”, EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich claimed today in a research note.

“Currently, we expect unit sales to decline by more than 50 percent series-over-series for November. This is coming off the October month where series-over-series units declined by more than 60 percent,” said Divnich, speaking ahead of Thursday night’s NPD numbers.

However, its not all doom and gloom for Activision’s revolutionary rhythm action franchise.

“In fact, we expect Guitar Hero and Rock Band releases for the next 10 years as they will always have a large and loyal market base, just as [Dance Dance Revolution] is still today a very profitable franchise for Konami, even though that series reached its peak a long time ago,” Divnich added.
