GT5: Prologue misses Euro PSN launch date

gt5prologue13.jpg

GT5: Prologue hasn’t turned up on the European PSN as planned, leaving some rather angry punters wondering what happened. The game was supposed to be released for download yesterday, with the boxed copy hitting stores today.

We’re waiting for comment from SCEE.

GT5: Prologue launches in India on same day as Europe

According to this, GT5: Prologue and God of War: Chains of Olympus are launching in India on the same day as Europe. As in, tomorrow. There’s a report there from the launch event in Mumbai. Expect to see plenty more from the Indian games industry in the coming years, especially if companies like Sony keep managing to achieve simultaneous releases between Europe and the Subcontinent.

Yamauchi: Expect GT deformation “very, very soon”

gt5prologue12.jpg

Polyphony Digital boss Kazanori Yamauchi has confirmed that car damage is finally on the way to Gran Turismo.

“We really, really want to put damage onto our vehicles,” he said, speaking in a video interview you can find after the link. “We’ve had a lot of discussions with the manufacturers and although at the beginning they hated the idea of deformation, now they’re slowly coming around to it. We’ve still got a few to convince, but we will. Expect deformation in the very near future: very, very soon.”

Yamauchi was speaking on the eve of the release of GT5: Prologue in Europe, and far ahead of a 2009 release of the full version of GT5. While not saying whether or not damage would be included in GT5 next year, online updates are already confirmed for Prologue, and Yamauchi said that PSN delivery would continue to play a big part in the evolution of GT on PS3.

“Obviously, we wanted to do a next-gen Gran Turismo,” he said. “When the PS3 appeared, we realised that we needed a lot of time to develop properly on this hardware, so we gave ourselves four years yto come up with a complete programme. As a result, you’re not going to get Gran Turismo all in one go, but gradually, adding online elements and features as we go. The good thing is that it’ll have a long, long lifespan.”

Watch the rest after the jump.

Gran Turismo 5 “is still about a year away”, says dev

gt5prologue11.jpg

Speaking here, SCEA’s Chris Hinojosa-Miranda has said that the full version of Gran Turismo 5 will be shipping roughly in the first half of next year.

“You could borrow it from someone, but that’s like licking the bowl after someone’s finished the ice cream,” he said in response to a question about whether a user should buy Prologue or wait for the full version. “Also, to further clarify, GT5 is still about a year away. You should just decide now to buy it, enjoy it, go online and race against anyone and everyone, rank number one worldwide, get the girl (or guy) and become the most popular kid in town. The end.”

Hinojosa-Miranda’s comments come after UK retailer GAME sent an email to subscribers saying the final version of the racing title wouldn’t be seen until 2009.

GT5 Prologue pre-orders “almost” hit 1 million across “SCEE territories”

Seems the previous report saying GT5 Prologue pre-orders had hit 1 million in Europe was a bit off. A SCEE rep just got back to us saying they’d “been checking this information internally and can confirm that we currently have orders for almost 1 million units of GT5 Prologue across SCEE territories.”

That includes Australia and New Zealand. So the racer’s not the first game to go platinum before release as previously thought. Just to clear that up.

GT5 Prologue net code included in 2.17 PS3 firmware

gt5prologue9.jpg

Net code for GT5 Prologue was included in last week’s 2.17 PS3 firmware update, we’re reliably informed, although we weren’t’ given specifics as to what the code does, if complimentary code is going to appear on the game’s disc, or any other details. We’ll look for clarification on this today. GT5 Prologue releases on March 28 in Europe and April 17 in the US.

GT has sold more than 48 million units, says Sony

gt5prologue8.jpg

Missed this last week. At the bottom of all those GT5 Prologue press releases was confirmation that the franchise has now sold more than 48 million units in total. The racer, therefore, will almost certainly move past the 50 million mark with the release of Prologue in the US and Europe on April 17 and March 28 respectively.

While impressive GT has some work to do to step up to the other big hitters currently throwing lifelong sales figures around: GTA was recently confirmed as having moved 66 million units, while the Sims neared the 100 million mark this year.

GT5 Prologue gets content boost and split-screen racing for US

gt5prologue4.jpg

While SCEE’s promising an imminent announcement of GT5 Prologue’s date in Europe, the Americans have been thrown a rather large bone with news that the US version is going to receive decent content addition over the Japanese release.

According to this, the American disc will include split-screen racing, a Drift Mode and car tuning. We haven’t seen the Japanese release, if we’re being honest, so we’re not sure if tuning was included previously.

[Update: We've just been told that there definitely wasn't tuning in the Japanese version - Ed]

The five tracks from the Japanese version are included, and the High Speed Ring has been added. Each track has two layouts.

There’s a full list of cars – there are more than 60 of them – through that link.

Euro PS3 bundles not going to America

gt5prologue3.jpg

SCEA and SCEE are obviously comfortable in their decisions. According to this, SCEA isn’t going to be bringing the two European bundles we saw today to Europe.

“On Tuesday we announced our plans for the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots PS3 bundle for North America,” said an SCEA spokesperson. “We currently do not have any plans for additional PS3 bundles.”

SCEE’s already said that the MGS4 bundle is unlikely to be heading from the US to Europe.

It’s worth noting that the GT5 Prologue and Movie Pack bundles weren’t officially announced this morning, although it all looked solid enough. As we said earlier, SCEE’s said its going to announce a final date for the Polyphony racer next week, so it’s reasonable to expect the bundles to be confirmed then as well.

SCEE to confirm GT5 Prologue release date “next week”

gt5prologue2.jpg

Speaking to videogaming247, SCEE has confirmed that the announcement of GT Prologue’s final release date will be made imminently.

PR reps “will be sending out a confirmed release date next week,” said a spokesperson.

The game’s date was apparently confirmed for Europe this morning, when a French site showed new bundle packs for European PS3s, one for GT5 Prologue and one for three Blu-ray movies.

The GT5 Prologue pack will release on March 29, said the report.

GT5 Prologue and Movie Pack PS3 bundles for Europe

gt5prologuebundle.jpg

According to this, SCEE’s going to release a GT5 Prologue bundle for €399 on March 29. A second bundle, the Movie Pack, will contain Casino Royale, Spider-Man and 300 on Blu-ray and will cost, again, €399. This would appear to confirm the European release date of GT5 Prologue as March 29.

We’re waiting on confirmation from SCEE about this, but if someone’s cobbled those packs together in Photoshop, we’re Dutch.
