Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was nominated for a London Design Museum award in 2002, with Rockstar creating exclusive interactive behind-the-scenes presentations to display in kiosks. The publisher has chosen to share these materials online for the first time; head through the break to learn all about the seminal title’s animation. Sound and city design chapters will be released on the Rockstar Blog soon.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City has been withdrawn from sale via PC digital distributors. GameInformer reports Rockstar sited musical licensing issues for the withdrawal, which it calls temporary, and CinemaBlend believes a DCMA flag is responsible, thanks to a claim by Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Chappell on Michael Jackson’s Wanna be Startin’ Something. The ESRB has rated both Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for release on PlayStation 3. A PS2 Classic release seems quite likely, as Grand Theft Auto III arrived on the PlayStation Network in late July and was well received; additionally, Vice City is headed to mobile platforms to celebrate its anniversary, so Rockstar is clearly keen to continue leveraging its best-selling classics. We’ve asked for details.

As spotted by PSNStores, the ESRB has re-rated Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Both titles are listed with PlayStation 3 as platform and Sony Computer Entertainment America as publisher, suggesting a PlayStation Network release. The lack of a double pack listing suggests we’re probably looking at PS2 Classics re-releases rather than HD makeovers. I’ve sent Rockstar a gleeful fangirl email so fingers crossed for an official update soon.

Sony looks set to release Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City as PS2 Classics on PSN, according to recent ESRB ratings. As noted by Siliconera, San Andreas wasn’t rated, however. Sony Computer Entertainment America is shown as the publishers in the ratings, not Rockstar. PS2 downloadable classics have been available since last year in the US, but have yet to make the jump to Europe.

Due to our shameful lack of update yesterday, you now only have a half a weekend to take advantage of the fact all Rockstar games have been reduced by 30 percent on Steam until tomorrow.
A string of classics – such as GTA IV, Bully: Scholarship Edition, Max Payne 2 and Vice City – are all for grabs for peanuts. Do yourself a favour, innit.
