Rumour: Lost and Damned sold 1 million

Variety, citing a “good source,” is rumouring that GTA IV DLC The Lost and Damned has sold around 1 million units since it released in February.
Analyst Michael Pachter has already put the same figure on the download, speaking at the beginning of March. Pachter estimated sales would reach 2 million by the end of this year.
The second and final part of GTA IV’s 360-exclusive DLC will release before the end of October this year.

February NPD – The Lost and Damned “would have outsold Killzone 2″ at retail

While we still don’t know exactly how many copies of GTA: The Lost and Damned were downloaded last month, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg said last night that the figure was more than that achieved by Killzone 2 at retail – 323,000.
The exec told Gamasutra the DLC was “the most successful game add-on content we’ve ever launched,” adding, “If that content was sold at retail, it would be one of the best-sellers across all platforms. It would have outsold Killzone 2″.
It’s worth noting that TLAD launched on February 17, while Killzone 2 released on February 27.

No figures were release in either the cash statement or the now-concluded – and painfully quick – earnings call as to how many units of The Lost and Damned have been downloaded for the game’s 360 version.

30% off all Rockstar games this weekend
Due to our shameful lack of update yesterday, you now only have a half a weekend to take advantage of the fact all Rockstar games have been reduced by 30 percent on Steam until tomorrow.
A string of classics – such as GTA IV, Bully: Scholarship Edition, Max Payne 2 and Vice City – are all for grabs for peanuts. Do yourself a favour, innit.

Rockstar prices The Lost and Damned [Update]
EG is reporting that Rockstar has priced 360 exclusive GTA IV DLC, The Lost and Damned, at 1600 MS Points.
So, in real world terms, you’re expected to fork out roughly £14/€19 for the expansion when it’s released on February 17.
A new screenshot was released yesterday alongside all the achievement details, in case you didn’t see it then.
Eurogamer will also be publishing its The Lost and Damned preview at 6pm GMT today. So watch out for that.
Update: EG’s preview is now live. Here’s the bit we liked best:
In gameplay terms, the biggest change is that, while Niko was often a lonely figure on missions, Johnny is regularly surrounded by his gang, who provide backup in battles, and company on the road. Thankfully, they take care of themselves pretty well, with no need for Tom Clancy-style squad controls. Instead, there’s a subtle incentive to keep them alive by watching their backs during shoot-outs: any gang members who survives a mission will gradually level up, becoming harder to kill, and sharper of shot. If they’re offed, however, they’ll be replaced by less useful newcomers, and the process begins anew.

NYT names Spore as 2008′s “best disappointment”
In a feature titled, “The Zombies Look Better Every Year,” the New York Times has named Spore as its biggest disappointment for 2008.
“If Electronic Arts has learned anything from its experience with Spore, it ought to be that a software company should just let its games do the talking, rather than relentlessly hyping a game for years before its release only to deliver a one-note electronic toy in the end,” said the paper.
“Spore would not have fizzled so quickly if expectations had not been so ludicrously inflated to begin with.”
Game of the year? GTA IV, obviously. Worth a read.

“We would ask anyone that is encountering difficulties to contact their local technical support helpline for advice and recommendations. These telephone numbers can be found in the game’s manual.
“There is also a regularly updated technical support page available on the Rockstar Games website where there are many useful FAQs, and information on how to resolve some common problems being encountered.”
