In a GDC session, as reported by Edge, Nathan Vella of Capybara Games said that earning a featured spot on Apple or Google’s app stores is the best way to promote a premium mobile game. He mentioned a number of other factors like not launching in the same week as big titles, figuring out what makes the game special and designing the game before deciding how to monetise it, but said leveraging fan interest to help get platform holders’ interest is vital. “Both of their companies have extremely ‘ear to the ground’ editorial teams and if you can make a splash, they will notice,” he said.

Computer science added to UK’s English Baccalaureate qualification
Computer science has been added to Britain’s English Baccalaureate (EBacc) qualification. The move was announced by Education Secretary, Michael Gove, who confirmed that it would be added alongside biology, chemistry and physics. Students working towards an EBacc can choose any three of the four sciences to meet the requirements of the qualification.

PopCap and Wooga pull titles off Google +
PopCap and Wooga have pulled titles off Google+, less than a year after games launched on the social service. Wooga plans to pull all three titles Bubble Island, Diamond Dash and Monster World, by July 1. PopCap’s only title on the service, Bejeweled Blitz, will be pulled as early as next week. Both firms are pulling the titles due to the lack of support for the social networking service as compared to Facebook. Google axes Street View shooter
In a move sure to horrify those who close the curtains when the Google car comes around the corner, a Dutch company called Pool Worldwide created a shooter experience for Google Street View. Called Google Shoot View, the overlay included a crosshair, a rifle, and sound effects, but wasn’t actually a game. Nevertheless, Business Insider reports Google pulled the plug, citing a violation of the service’s terms of service. For the few days it existed over the weekend, Google Shoot View brought enough traffic to crash the company’s servers, and had up to 3,000 concurrent users.
