Epic has released the Fenix Rising add-on for Gears of War 3, which features five new multiplayer maps “inspired by the life and experiences” the series’s hero, Marcus Fenix: Academy, Anvil, Depths, Escalation, and the Slab.

Epic is hosting a Gears 3 event, which mixes up the game’s multiplayer portion every day for the next 12 days. Called Twelve Days of Gearsmas, some of the events haven’t’ been announced, as the firm plans on releasing them as a surprise, but what is known so far is posted below. Folks can even try their hands at winning will daily prizes on the Gears community site. Prizes range from a Beta Tester t-shirt, to the GoW3 Vault created by Calibur11. The opening chapter from the Gears of War 3 DLC RAAM’s Shadow has been videoed, and is posted below in three-parts,courtesy of Ve3tro. The campaign takes place before the events of the first Gears, and will last around three hours. It will also include six new multiplayer characters, the Chocolate Weapon Skin Set and an additional 250 Gamerscore. RAAM’s Shadow is set for release on XBL December 13 and it will cost you 1200 MSP.

Epic’s released the free Booster Map Pack for Gears of War 3, bringing with it five maps, two of which are entirely new: Swamp and Clocktower. The DLC also includes three maps from the recently-released Horde Command Pack: Azura, Rustlung and Blood Drive. You can get the content queued up for your 360 here. The download comes in at 237.67Mb.

Gears of War 3 players who finish Horde mode on Insane difficulty in either single-player or multiplayer, and who watch the Mission: Impossible trailer on XBL before December 25, will get a “themed weapon skin pack”. The pack consists of skins for the Lancer, Hammerburst, Retro Lancer, Gnasher Shotgun, and Sawed-off Shotgun. If you are unable to finish Horde on Insane, though, you’ll still be put in a contest to win separate prizes.

Epic has posted a Gears of War 3 video, showing the first bit of footage from Bullet Marsh, one of the new multiplayer maps included with the free Versus Booster Map Pack. According to the developers, Bullet Marsh is a” reimagining of Gears 1’s foreboding, swampy stomping grounds” which is home to a bunch of nasty Kryll. The only come out when it’s dark, so if the lights get extinguished, start running your ass off. If you are unfamiliar with it, just think of the movie Pitch Black and you will get the idea.

The Versus Booster Map Pack will be released on November 24. Watch the video below.

Horde4Charity will be playing Gears of War 3′s Horde Mode for forty-eight hours straight on Insane difficulty in order to benefit the Skylight Miscarriage Organisation. Starting November 18, the event will be streamed live on Justin.tv with Twitter updates via the Gears 4 Charity account and live blogged on the official Facebook page. Come November 20, the six Scotsmen participating, will finally collapse from sleep deprivation, but hopefully not not until enough donations have been made. “We’re not saying that everything on the disc is the product. The disc is another delivery mechanism. We had begun DLC packs early enough, and with the extension to our schedule. It meant we had that stuff done before we shipped. We felt it was a win/win, because no one is going to have to download anything huge when the DLC comes out.

A new piece of free Gears of War 3 DLC, the Versus Booster Map Pack, will launch on November 25. The pack will contain Gears 1 classics Swamp and Clocktower, as well as Azura, Rustlung and Blood Drive from the Horde Command Pack, which released yesterday for 800 MS points. The release of Horde Command and Versus Booster packs this month will come as part of a trilogy of DLC releases for the game before the end of the year, the final being campaign content RAAM’s Shadow on December 13 for 1200 MS points.

Epic has announced that the Horde Command Pack, the first of the Gears of War 3 DLC, is now available for download after technical issues delayed its release earlier this morning.
