Epic has announced a Gears of War 2 triple XP event starting today and running through Monday, November 16.
That’s nine days there, folks.
Additionally, players will be able to play in the new tactical mode across all multiplayer games which has increased weapon damage and reduced ammo counts along with increasing “down-but-not-out” health for revives.
Public Horde’s difficulty will be “bumped to hardcore”, and playlists can also include individual game types.

Rumour – Play.com list Gears of War 2 GOTY edition
If a listing from Play.com is correct, a Gears of War 2 GOTY edition is on it’s way.
There is no new details on the game itself, just a standard synopsis on the game as it is. But the page does have a date for the game – September 18 2009.
It comes as details emerged last night that a Fable II GOTY edition was on its way. We’ll contact Microsoft about this, see if this is true.
Thanks, Fragland.

Two new Dark Corners intro vids show large men’s helmets

After the break you can see two intro videos of the deleted scenes that come with the new Gears of War 2 Dark Corners DLC that Cliff Blezsinsky detailed on Major’s podcast yesterday.
It shows Marcus and Dom sneaking around wearing full Locust attire complete with some rather tight, red helmets.
Get ready to rumble on July 28.

Cliff Bleszinski details Gears of War 2 Dark Corners DLC’s single-player

Speaking on Major Nelson’s podcast, Gears of War 2 designer Cliff Bleszinski revealed that his game’s Dark Corners DLC will include content that was snipped out of the game’s original release.
“It’s a 90-minute section that was actually snipped out of Gears of War 2, where Marcus and Dom are actually going to the Locust homeworld and they’re basically suited up in Locust armour and have a choice – because they knocked out a couple of Therons – they can go in guns-blazing as they always do, Rambo-style, or they can go with a more stealth approach, so it’s a little bit of stealth in the Gears universe,” Bleszinski said.
“You get Achievements for playing the mode either way and it kind of plugs right into the main game. It’s actually the first time we’ve done any sort of single-player DLC. It’s kind of a test to see whether people dig it.”
Large men in glowing armor attempting to tip-toe about? We’ll try anything once.
The link has more, but do you have the sheer will to click through it? Do a bit of soul-searching, then give it a shot.
Thanks, Eurogamer.

Gears of War 2 All Fronts DLC shows up on XBL, gets pulled

Epic has confirmed that the All Fronts DLC for Gears of War 2 was available on Xbox Live Marketplace by accident earlier today around 1:00am CST.
Scheduled for release on July 28, not only was it leaked early but put up for 800 MS Points when it’s slated to cost 1600 Ms Points.
While those who jumped on it right away got the DLC, those not as fast got an error message.
Too late though, those who were quick enough are playing as we speak, and Epic is asking those who did to not post any videos or screens of it.

SIGGRAPH 2009 session to focus on graphics in Gears 2 and Fight Night Round 4

Gaming will have a larger impact than ever before at this year’s SIGGRAPH conference, with Will Wright giving a keynote and game graphics being discussed in a special session.
The annual meeting of digital artists conference has a special gaming session titled “Big, Fast, and Cool: Making the Art for Fight Night Round 4 & Gears of War 2″, which will focus on real-time graphics and visuals for both games.
“So much of what makes today’s videogames so great are the responsive graphics and the stories that unfold during game play,” said SIGGRAPH chairmain Evan Hirsch in a press release.
“This year’s sessions will offer a rare perspective into how animation and graphics can really enhance and impact game development and the user experience and investigate the future of gaming.”

Epic explains Memorial Day event’s matchmaking issues

Last Month over Memorial Day weekend, Epic ran an “Old School” event for Gears of War 2, which saw some users having matchmaking issues.
The problems were reminiscent of matchmaking snafus right after the game launched, but according to Rod Fergusson, it wasn’t Epic’s fault this time.
“Our investigations have shown that the reported issue has to do with a very small minority of players with very poor network connections,” he told TeamXbox in a statement. “When they attempt to host a matchmaking party, they are not able to find matches due to their high network latency.
“We could increase the ping threshold to allow these players to host but it would have an overall negative effect on the global Gears 2 community as they would begin finding games with greater latency. So while this isn’t ideal for a tiny minority of players, it is much better overall for the majority of players. For the players that have this issue, the easiest answer is simply to join another player’s matchmaking party instead of trying to host one themselves.
“In terms of when this began, we’ve been making continuous optimizations to the matchmaking experience, and the perceived timing of recent changes with the “Old School” weekend is purely coincidental.”
So there ya go.

Gears 2 expansion pack gets price cut

Microsoft has cut the price of Gears of War 2 expansion pack Dark Corners from 1600 to 1200 MS Points. That’s £10.20 or €14.40.
That’s not all, as the All Fronts Collection, which features the aforementioned Dark Corners, Flashback, Combustible and Snowblind will be made available as a digital download from Xbox Live for a mere 15 quid.
Why the price cut? “Because it felt like the right thing to do,” said Epic’s Rod Fegusson to IGN. That’s why.

Gears of War No. 7 comic tells Tai’s backstory

Poor Tai Kaliso. He was easily a favorite of ours and we hated the way things went down for him in Gears of War 2.
To make up for it though, DC Comics and Wildstorm provide a backstory to the “proud warrior with a gentle heart” in the upcoming Gears of War No.7.
This special issue was illustrated by Simon Bisley and written by Joshua Ortega and Henry Flint.
It goes on sale May 20, and Kotaku has a nice preview of it posted on the site.
