GameStop sold 600,000 Elite memberships, says company president
During a call to investors today discussing the firm’s financial results, GameStop resident Tony Bartel announced that Call of Duty Elite subscriptions helped pad the firm’s digital sales growth for the quarter.
“In the case of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, we worked closely with Activision, Sony and Microsoft to pre-order and deliver nearly 600,000 instances of the Modern Warfare Elite DLC to date,” Bartel told investors and analysts. “This places the launch of Elite as one of our top 10 launches of the year so far.” Earlier today, GameStop reported 59% growth in digital sales year-on-year, with console digital sales up 63% and PC digital sales up 51%. “New game announcements” at Resident Evil 5 launch party

Seems like everything fun happens in California, and the Resident Evil 5 launch is going to be no exception.
Capcom’s confirmed in this blog post that “new game announcements” will be made at the party, to take place on San Francisco’s Union Square on Thursday, March 12.
Attendees will be able to get a glimpse of RE5 developers Takeuchi-san and Kawata-san, play the game before they buy it, win prizes, meet the motion capture and voice actors, and participate in all sorts of other revelry.
To get in, head on over to the Powell Street GameStop before the party, get a wrist band and proof of purchase from your RE5 transaction, then go have a bit of fun.

Core gamers have “no clue” we’re in recession, says Pachter
Speaking to the AP, Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter’s claimed core gamers will keep on buying no matter what’s going on in the global disaster that is “the economy.”
“They may be wealthy, they may be poor, but they have no clue we are in a recession,” he said.
“As long as hard-core gamers have a job, they will continue to buy games,” added IDC analyst Billy Pidgeon.
And retail knows it. Well, Gamestop’s boss does, anyway.
“If the core gamers and the avid gamers are with us through these very unpredictable times, that’s a very, very good sign for us,” said R Richard Fontaine, GameStop’s chairman.
