Ravaged, the FPS multiplayer online game from 2 Dawn Games, has a new DLC pack available for no charge. It adds a new arsenal of weapons, vehicles, and game modes along with the new chainsaw and flamethrower. It also comes with a moveable dump truck, and two new game modes: Team Deathmatch and Hijack. XP gains have also been improved, and ammo has been reduced to encourage players to “scavenge for weapons and ammo to stay alive.” Ravaged can be picked up on Steam for $9.99, and players can also grab the first Apocalypse DLC Pack for free as well. A six-level demo for Sword of the Stars: The Pit has been released by Kerberos Productions. The dungeon crawler, based on the firm’s Sword of the Stars 4X strategy games, is now available exclusively through GamersGate and for the first week will will available for 10% off. Indie shooter Ether Vapor Remaster will release on Steam, GamersGate, GameTap, and GameStop on Friday, June 29. The re-release is courtesy of Nyu Media. Remaster will include leaderboards, four modes, HD visuals, and English text. No word on pricing just yet, so just log into one of the respective digital sites on Friday to puck it up. Digital distribution channel GamersGate, is offering its Indie Fort Bundle 2; featuring six games for the price of a pint of beer. The bundle includes 3079, Fortrix 2, Aztaka, Dark Scavenger, DEMISE: Ascension and Intrusion 2, as well as some small bits of bonus content. Individually the titles sell for £58.72, but as part of this deal you pay a measly £3.99/€4.99/$5.99 or a bit more if you’re feeling the love, with any additional payment going straight to the developers. At the time of writing the bundle has four days remaining on sale and has so far sold 1,434 units for a total price of $10,574.41.

Valve’s Jason Holtman has told GI.biz that rival digital download sites like Direct2Drive, Impulse and Gamersgate that refuse to sell Modern Warfare 2 over the inclusion of Steamworks are missing out on business.

“To our minds, we think that if you’re making a good game and it’s got the services a customer wants it should get out in as many channels as possible. If you have a good portal and you’re good at collecting money from folks, and attracting them, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be,” said the business development director.

“We try to make those services that developers and our customers want. Whether another distributor wants to carry them or not, we don’t have any say in the matter, that’s between Activision and other online distributors.”

Direct2Drive accused Steamworks of “forcing the user to install a Trojan Horse” earlier in the month, and while Holtman didn’t “comment on the comment” he did say that a lot more games featuring the tool are set for release.

“The interesting thing is, those games that have Steamworks features in them are really made to be the things customers want. Developers are choosing the features that make the game better. There’s no service where there are features you have to have, developers are choosing between those, he said.

“There’s a lot of games that came out in 2009 with Steamworks, and they’ll be a lot more games in 2010 that have Steamworks.”

GamersGate has announced that over 1,000 different titles appear in its online distribution library, including Braid.

“Braid not only challenges traditional game design, it challenges the very fabric of the industry by achieving critical success as a download only title,” said GamersGate CEO Theodore Bergquist.

“Our goal is to enable market access for small development companies in order to foster innovation in the industry, and having Braid as our 1000th title is a symbol of our success.”

Originally part of Paradox Interactive, the service became independent of the publisher by way of budgets, goals and management – yet still maintains close ties.

The site just recently added X3: Gold, Happy Tree Friends False Alarm, Fishdom H2O: Hidden Odyssey, Modern Warrior Special Tactics, and is currently running a 75 percent-off special on Space Siege.
