An ex-US Postal Service worker in Pennsylvania has admitted in federal court to five-fingering 2,200 rental games bound for customers of GameFly.
Reginald Johnson, 34, of Germantown, faces 12 to 18 months in prison with sentencing set for January 13.
The mail-processing clerk who loaded and unloaded tractor-trailers of mail stole approximately $86,000, worth of games between April and September 2008.
After being under surveillance, the feds showed up to get him at work, only for him to flee the scene in his vehicle, and he was only apprehended after wrecking his SUV and running on foot for a bit. During this time he dropped a duffel bag, which was found to be packed with 81 GameFly titles.
Further search of the vehicle found another bag containing 79 mailers from the game rental service.
Apparently, Johnson had been trading the games to GameStop and inside his vehicle the feds found receipts from the store along with five Nintendo Wii Sports, three Wii Fits, a Playstation console, and game controllers.

Editor and long-time 1UP’er Garnett Lee has been hired on at GameFly as editorial director for the service’s media properties which include FileShack, Gameanswers.com., Ponged and Shacknews.
GameFly is moving into internet publishing as well as continuing to rent games by mail, and Lee will be heading all things written, apparently.
Lee is one of the good guys, and with all the shaking up of things over at 1UP during the past two years, we wish him nothing but the best in his new endeavor.

Gamefly rental service has listed ModNation Racers on its website under PSP alongside the PS3 version.
According to the retailer, both games are slated for February 28 and considering Gamefly has been known to leak games in the past, it’s a distinct possibility that the PSP version and the date are both true.
Or, it could just be an intern screwing things up.
We’ll send a shout out to Sony and see if they respond.

US site Shacknews has been bought by GameFly, as confirmed here.
Fileshack’s gone with it. The outlet was formed in 1995. No financials terms were disclosed.
“GameFly has demonstrated a true understanding of and commitment to Shacknews’ gaming culture,” said Shacknews founder Steve Gibson.
“We are confident GameFly will protect the legacy and community we’ve established, while at the same time providing much needed resources to expand into new and exciting areas that would not otherwise be possible.”
