WipEout HD patched, freezing fixed

wipeouthd.jpg

WipEout HD has been patched to 1.1, as you’ll see the next time you load it. The fix apparently solves the freezing issue from the original game, where players with more than 50 people on their Friends List would get system locks.

No longer. Go and blow someone up.

WipEout HD freeze is “definitely a friends list issue”

wipeouthd8.jpg

We’ve just been told from a PS3 dev source that the WipEout HD locking problem is “definitely a friends list issue, not an SDK bug. It can be coded around, so there’s bound to be an imminent patch.”

As previously reported, people with more than 50 friends on their PS3 lists are getting lock-ups with the game.

SCEA said overnight it’s looking into the problem. Sounds as though it isn’t anything too heavy, so expect it to be fixed soon.

Sony admits locking problems with WipEout HD

wipeouthd21.jpg

Kotaku’s posted a comment from SCEA which appears to confirm that there is a problem with locking on some PS3s and WipEout HD.

“Following the release of WipEout HD on PlayStation Store yesterday, we’ve been following the reports by some members of the community regarding problems with game freezes,” said a rep.

“We’d like to reassure you all that the WipEout team is working hard to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.”

As reported yesterday, it seems the game doesn’t get on too well with large friends lists. Has to be pretty easy to fix, right?

EA working on Madden patch after freezes reported

madden09.JPG

According to this IGN report, EA’s working on patching Madden after a bunch of issues with the game – including freezing – were reported by gamers. From the piece:

According to a Producer Blog posted by Ian Cummings, Senior Designer of Madden 2010 on the EA Sports site on August 26, the team has been working on a new patch, and has been furiously trying to work on the stability of the game, as well as tracking down what was causing the problem.

Although Cummings mentioned that the issue was very hard because not everyone on their team was able to detect it, he recommended that players should save and reboot their game after they’ve started a game if players like playing multiple matches at a time, or save and exit a game to start a new one.

PS3 owners complain of Firmware 2.40 freezes

A bevy of threads has popped up on the US PlayStation boards showing Firmware 2.40 is causing what appears to be a slew of lock-ups. Look here, here and here.

This thread on Eurogamer also complains of the same thing: after installing the update, some are experiencing an irrecoverable freeze at the “waves” part of the system’s boot-up.

We’re contacting Sony now.

GRID 360 experiencing lock-ups, patch promised

grid6.jpg

According to this thread on the Codemasters forum, the 360 version of Race Driver GRID is showing some technical hitches for some users, namely freezing.

Dev head Gavin Raeburn has admitted there’s an issue and has promised a patch in the near future.

“We’re close to getting to the root of the problem and we will be including a fix and a backup workaround option (just in case) in our forthcoming patch due within the next few weeks or sooner,” he said. “We think the issue is due to specific drive hardware, possibly with bad blocks/sectors.

“The best temporary measure is to copy your gamertag to a mem card, remove the hard drive and run the game that way. Replays and caching will be disabled, though instant replay will still work as this caches to memory.

“I hope this helps in the short term.”

Thanks, Gamer.tm.

New firmware to fix GTA IV PS3 freezing?

According to this post on the boardsus.playstation forum, 2K’s tech support has said that Sony is looking into making a new firmware for the 60GB PS3 in order to fix GTA IV’s freezing problems.

The email to the frustrated user apparently said:

There is an issue with the launch edition of the PS3 and this game, the game was checked over and passed as 100% compatible with the current version of the PS3, of course the earlier version has custom chips which mean that it is a very different animal from the current PS3 on sale.

Sony are aware of this difference and are looking into producing a new firmware just for the earlier version of the PS3.

Kind Regards
