Interview: DJ Hero 2′s Jamie Jackson

Activision’s DJ Hero 2 is set to be released later this year, with many gamers and industry pundits alike still on the fence about the potential mass market appeal of the mix-and-mash-em-up dance music game.
While DJ Hero was well received critically when it released late in 2009, with plenty of positive reviews in both the specialist and the lifestyle/dance press, the sales were somewhat lackluster. Despite that, Activision clearly thinks that it can garner a good return on its investment, as developer Freestyle Games has recently announced (and has been showing off) DJ Hero 2, which amongst other new features and additions, will let dance aficionados muck around with two plastic turntables and microphone.

First DJ Hero review goes live, gets a 9 from IGN UK
DJ Hero is out tomorrow in the US and Friday in the UK.
IGN UK has gone live with the first review for the game, giving the game a 9.3.
Here’s a snip:
Those quibbles aside though, we’re full of praise for FreeStyleGames’ sterling work on its inaugural franchise debut. DJ Hero is a beautifully structured experience that understands the rhythm-action genre thoroughly enough to appeal directly to progression-obsessed fans, yet knows how to juggle its goods to offer a music experience that’s never frustrating and wears its unpretentious accessibility with pride. Its perfectly-judged difficulty curve ensures there’s a richly rewarding sense of accomplishment as you hone your turntable skills and, even if you’re just looking for a quick spin, the quality of the game’s audio is compelling in itself. Hands-down, it’s the most exciting, refreshing music game we’ve played in ages and, whether on or off the decks, DJ Hero succeeds admirably in its goal to bring people together to party – and isn’t that what music’s all about?
This is only the start. Expect more reviews to go live soon.
