Firefly Studios has announced Stronghold 3: Gold Edition will be released on May 25 for PC and Mac. The release comes with the new Blackstaff single-player campaign and all 12 historical sieges, previously only available through special editions of the game as well as the three core campaigns, four multiplayer modes including the new Coronation mode, and a free-build sandbox mode. Those who already own Stronghold 3 or purchase it before May 25 will have their copy automatically upgraded to the Gold Edition through Steam. Those who purchase the standard edition after this date will have the option to purchase the Blackstaff Campaign as downloadable content. Shots of the new campaign are posted below.

Firefly’s medieval castle building sim, Stronghold 3, will finally release on October 25 which is almost exactly 10 years since the release of the first entry. A true sequel to the original title, the game sees the return of the franchise’s “most notorious enemy,” The Wolf. Apparently, The Boy didn’t kill the fella after all, and he is out for revenge.

After a couple of delays, the game has gone to press, and can be pre-ordered from Direct2Drive, Steam, GameStop, GreenManGaming, GAME, and GetGames.

Throw down a pre-order for upcoming RTS Stronghold on Steam, and you’ll score a free copy of the first game in the series.

Destructoid reports pre-orders also give purchasers access to a bonus level, the Tower of London.

Stronghold is the latest in a series of historical strategy titles, and is due exclusively on PC in September.

SouthPeak Interactive has announced that Stronghold 3 has been pushed back from its original release schedule and will now launch “later this summer.”

Firefly Studios has announced that it is currently developing the first castle-based MMO, titled Stronghold Kingdoms.

Based on the Stronghold franchise, the title is a mix between PC and web gameplay, where players embark on building their own kingdoms using strategy and “long-term planning”.

“What is exciting about Stronghold Kingdoms is not only are we taking Stronghold online and massively multiplayer, but we are funding this ourselves as an independent developer”, said Firefly CEO Eric Ouellette to GI.biz.

The MMO realm is missing a proper medieval title with knights, disgruntled peasants, and conquerors. Hopefully this will fill the void.

It’s expected to launch in 2010.

An “improved” version of strategy game Sronghold Crusader has been announced by Gamecock and developer Firefly promising “huge battles with over 10000 units on screen, a new Extreme Trail which will test even the best Crusader players and a new tactical aid bar which allows you to unleash super moves on your enemies.” Fantabulous. “Spring 2008″ is as accurate as the release date gets.
