Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn patch 2.1 will not only contain the usual tweaks and balancing, it will also contain salons allowing players to change their character’s facial appearance and hair. According to producer Naoki Yoshida, the team plans on implementing additional options through future patches, and every patch “will be focused on a specific race.” In addition, players will be able to choose hairstyles from other races, according to Siliconera. Patch 2.1 launches on December17.

There’s been a lot of swapping of costumes and characters between Final Fantasys lately. After Lightning popped up in Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, she seems to have taken a costume back with her, as you’ll see in this new trailer.

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn players on PS3 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version for free, but in the process, players will lose the login rights to the PS3 version.

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn PSN refunds being offered for digital standard, collectors editions
Customers who purchased Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn Standard Edition, or Collector’s Edition, from PSN on August 27 or August 28 in Europe can receive a full refund and will be able to find the funds in their wallet as soon as this is processed. In addition, the entitlements of the Standard Edition or Collector’s Edition will be reset and the title will appear again in the download list. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience,” read the post. We’re assuming this has something to do with the server congestion issues which plagued the game at launch. More through the EU PS Blog.

With the Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn beta now open to PS3 players, a beta participant has posted 676 screens from phase three on Flickr. You can have a look at the massive assortment through here. Final Fantasy is out on PC and PS3 in August and will release on PS4. Thanks, AGB.

Square Enix has released a developer video for Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn which discusses the MMO’s Full Active Time Events, also known as F.A.T.E. These are events in the game which can happen randomly while the player is minding his or her own business running about the game world. The events can come in the form of a huge monster spawn, or a group of such appearing in non-instanced areas. When it occurs, an alert will pop up on the game screen so player in the zone can join in. Find out more below. Game’s out on PC and PS3 in August and will release on PS4.

Square has released a video for Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn which gives you a look at the Job Actions in the MMO. Those interested in Phase 3 of the PC and PS3 beta, can sign up for it here and here for North America and Europe, respectively. It starts June 14. Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn will launch this summer on PC and PS3. The third phase of closed beta testing will start in June, and as previously reported, this will include PS3 users. The beta will also include new content such as the city states of Ul’dah and Limsa Lominsa. New shots are below. Well, a few we’ve seen before, but you get the idea.

New screenshots for Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn have appeared online, showing the Archer, Gladiator, Lancer, Marauder, Pugilist, Conjurer, and Thaumaturge classes. If you head over to NeoGAF, you will also see shots of the jobs Bard, Dragoon, Monk, Paladin, Warrior, Black Mage, and White Mage. The game is looking rather lovely, and if you head below, you will be able to watch a developer gameplay walkthrough video (thanks, EdNorton). Better grab something to drink and run a few errands first – it’s two hours long. Hopefully, you understand Japanese as well. A Realm Reborn is a complete remake of Final fantasy 14 currently in beta and is slated for PC and PS3 later this year.

The second phase of closed beta testing for Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn has started. Running across weekends throughout April, those who are in the early beta phase will be able to explore the forest environments of Gridania, with new features such as PC gamepad support and personal Chocobo mounts and Full Active Time Events. Phase three is scheduled for summer, and will include the PS3 version and more new content. You can still sign up for the beta.

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn will allow more testers in the beta come April, and during Phase 2, support for gamepad controllers will be implemented. Word on this comes from the latest producer letter which you can read here. Phase 2 of the beta, Yoshida says, will kick off in early April. There are currently 100,000 testers trying things out, and if you want in on Phase 2, be sure to sign up here for your chance at a spot. Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn’s Phase 3 of the beta will go public and PS3 users will be able to join on the action. Both versions will be released later this year. Thanks, Siliconera.

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn will be the recipient of a fourth alpha test starting next week and running until mid-December. An extra world will be added so more players can participate, even though the test will include 40 areas which can accommodate 1,000 players at once. Still, it’s better to be safe than sorry. This will be the final alpha test for the MMO, but the development team is considering leaving the worlds open until the end of the year. More information is available through the latest producer’s letter.

Final Fantasy 14 is to be destroyed by retailers per Square Enix’s request, according to a NeoGaf poster who works at retail. The firm is offering $16 compensation for each copy. Joystiq requested comment on the matter, but Square wouldn’t acknowledge a destroy order had been issued. Square is busy working on the game’s reboot, which upon launch will be known as Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn.

Final Fantasy 14 is fast approaching its relaunch under the happy appellation of A Realm Reborn. Although it’s not just graphics the Square Enix team is fixing, this preview screens show things are going swimmingly in that department.
