Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn will launch this summer on PC and PS3. The third phase of closed beta testing will start in June, and as previously reported, this will include PS3 users. The beta will also include new content such as the city states of Ul’dah and Limsa Lominsa. New shots are below. Well, a few we’ve seen before, but you get the idea.

New screenshots for Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn have appeared online, showing the Archer, Gladiator, Lancer, Marauder, Pugilist, Conjurer, and Thaumaturge classes. If you head over to NeoGAF, you will also see shots of the jobs Bard, Dragoon, Monk, Paladin, Warrior, Black Mage, and White Mage. The game is looking rather lovely, and if you head below, you will be able to watch a developer gameplay walkthrough video (thanks, EdNorton). Better grab something to drink and run a few errands first – it’s two hours long. Hopefully, you understand Japanese as well. A Realm Reborn is a complete remake of Final fantasy 14 currently in beta and is slated for PC and PS3 later this year.

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn will allow more testers in the beta come April, and during Phase 2, support for gamepad controllers will be implemented. Word on this comes from the latest producer letter which you can read here. Phase 2 of the beta, Yoshida says, will kick off in early April. There are currently 100,000 testers trying things out, and if you want in on Phase 2, be sure to sign up here for your chance at a spot. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s alpha test at the end of the month, according to producer Naoki Yoshida. The alpha will contain server stress tests and hardware configurations, and “the backbone of the game’s new system.” The current version of FFXIV will remain available for a while yet, but just remember that after November 11, player data will no longer be ported over to the A Realm Reborn server.

Final Fantasy 14 is to be destroyed by retailers per Square Enix’s request, according to a NeoGaf poster who works at retail. The firm is offering $16 compensation for each copy. Joystiq requested comment on the matter, but Square wouldn’t acknowledge a destroy order had been issued. Square is busy working on the game’s reboot, which upon launch will be known as Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn.

Final Fantasy 14 is fast approaching its relaunch under the happy appellation of A Realm Reborn. Although it’s not just graphics the Square Enix team is fixing, this preview screens show things are going swimmingly in that department.

Square has released two preview videos for Final Fantasy XIV patch 1.22, which will feature a new battle content pitting players against Garuda, the primal of wind. Two encounters will be added: a standard battle for level 45 full, right-member parties as well as a hard mode designed with level 50 full parties. Below, check out the Garuda battle in the Howling Eye and a weapons rewards video, both ion hard mode.
