The US Federal Trade Commission has released the results of its latest investigation into enforcement of age ratings at retail, and we won.

Well, that was quick. The Federal Trade Commission is done snooping around EA and Take-Two, and has given the merger its approval.

Now, barring any issues that the FTC feels “public interest” may be against, Take-Two’s belligerence is the only force standing between Take-Two and EA’s mighty jaws.

The two companies are currently in talks, so we’ll see how that goes.

According to an SEC filing, EA has satisfied the Federal Trade Commission’s second round of information requests regarding its bid for Take-Two.

As previously reported, EA has agreed with the US body to hold off on a closing move for Take-Two until August 21 or until the FTC finishes its investigation into the deal, whichever comes sooner.

Despite Take-Two appearing to struggle somewhat to comply with the FTC’s demands, EA’s convinced any working to rule from the other side won’t impact on its activities relating to the deal.

“Whatever happens with Take-Two’s process doesn’t impact [the FTC's] timing, because our agreement with the FTC provides that they complete their review within the 45 days,” said Tiffany Steckler of EA’s corporate communications.

As GamePolitics reminds us, the deadline on EA’s extension to buy Take-Two shares ends today.

A further extension is almost certain, given that the FTC is still investigating the merger, so expect to hear something on that either this evening or tomorrow morning.
