First day Japanese PSPgo sales come in at 28k

pspgo3

According to Famitsu, the PSPgo has sold over 28k since it on sale yesterday in Japan. The exact figures were 28,275 units.

Sunday was the last day in Famitsu’s parent company Enterbrain weekly tracking period, although as the site points, the DSi and PSP-3000 both launched in a two day period, and sold extremely well at that point.

Make of that as you will.

Thanks, Andriasang.

Famitsu: White Knight Chronicles sequel slated for reveal at TGS 09

whiteknightchronicles

Famitsu has reported that a White Knight Chronicles sequel is currently in development, and will be revealed at TGS 09 this week.

The mag’s exhibitor preview lists Shirokishi Monogatari: Hikari to Yami no Kakusei which, according to Siliconera, translates into White Knight Chronicles: Awakening of Light and Darkness.

The first White Knight Chronicles has yet to leave Japan and make its way elsewhere, but that’s the way things tend to go with Japanese releases.

Later this year, Sony’s releasing White Knight Chronicles EX in Japan, which is a discounted re-release that includes all of the online patches. This is the version of the game the West is to get with English text and possibly voice chat during the early part of next year.

Coolio.

Square teases Nier Replicant in latest issue of Famitsu

neirreplicant

The new issue of Famitsu has a two-page advert for Nier Replicant with the tagline “Beyond revenge lies crazed desperation.”

This is a Square Enix thing, which promises to reveal what it’s all about next week.

If the “Neir” part sounds familiar to you, 1UP has you covered.

Nier’s the Cavia-developed action game slated for PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010, and Square wanted it to be a “hit in the West”, so plans to release it in Japan were shelved for a while, but Nier was formally announced for Japan today under the name Nier Gestalt.

As far as Nier Replicant is concerned though, guess we’ll find out next week.

Report – PS3 Slim sells over 150K in Japan

ps3slim41

According to early reports from Famitsu, the PS3 Slim has sold over a staggering 150k in Japan within the first three days of it’s launch from Friday.

The exact number is actually 152,252, which is still actually incredible considering only 88,000 were sold within the first two days of going on sale. The figures also mean that it’s the biggest sales count the PS3 has ever recieved in Japan.

Earlier today, Chart-Track confirmed to us that PS3 sales in the UK were up 1,000%. The fightback is on…

Thanks, Kotaku.

Dragon Quest IX music composer gets angry when games are pirated

pirate

The music composer for Dragon Quest IX, Koichi Sugiyama, has told Famitsu that stealing games is the same as breaking and entering.

“The way I see it, it’s like selling a set of thieves’ tools,” he told the mag. “If you make off with a physical item, everybody knows that’s a crime. If you stole an apple from a fruit stand, then you’re plainly committing the crime of shoplifting; going into someone’s house and taking their jewelry is robbery.

“Everyone is conscious of the fact that stealing what’s in front of you is a crime, but with something that’s not in plain sight, like intellectual property, a lot of people fail to understand what the issue is.”

Dragon Quest IX sells 2.3 million in first two days

dragonquestixlogo

Famitsu is reporting that Dragon Quest IX has sold over 2.3 million units in its first two days on sale in Japan.

The game released over the weekend. Pre-orders for the hugely anticipated DS RPG had topped 2 million.

The title appears to have beaten the launch of its predecessor: Dragon Quest VIII sold 2,237,000 units in its opening 48 hours in 2004.

Thanks, Andriasang.

Lost Planet 2 demo “coming soon, I guess,” says Takeuchi

lostplanet21v1

Lost Planet 2 producer Jun Takeuchi has revealed at Famitsu’s Midnight Live 360 event that a four player co-op demo for the monster-shooter is “coming soon, I guess.”

Whether this means he’s simply speculating that it’s imminent, or the suffix is simply a throwaway comment, remains to be seen.

Lost Planet 2 has no release date as yet but will probably be out for PC and HD consoles sometime in 2010, we guess.

Thanks, Joystiq.

Advert in Famitsu suggests the return of Tingle

tingle

Everyone’s favorite fairy from the Zelda series – sorry, Navi – may be back if a full-page ad in Famitsu is any indication.

It’s a bright pink,  shows Tingle with his trusty balloon, the headline “Fairy?”, and a URL to the Japanese Nintendo site.

The last major release starring the lovable weirdo was Freshly-Picked Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland for DS and another on exclusively for Japanese Club Nintendo members, Tingle’s Balloon Fight, in 2007.

Expect more on this soon, we reckon.

Thanks, 1UP.

Report: New Yakuza game in the works [Update]

yakuza6

Apparently, the cover of the latest Famitsu claims there’s a new Yakuza game in development.

It’s a prequel, supposedly, uncliding a younger Kazuma Kiryu. Toshihiro Nagoshi is reportedly back as producer.

We’ll have to take PS3Center‘s word for it at the moment.

Expect more soon.

Update: It’s true. There’s more on Kotaku.

Dead Rising 2′s main character is called “Chuck”

deadrising21

According to this latest issue of Famitsu, Dead Rising 2′s lead character is called “Chuck”.

Sensational. The game’s being shown this week at CAPTIVATE in Monte Carlo, so you don’t have too long to see Chuck going mental with a chainsaw in a casino, all being well.

Killzone 2 gets 32/40 in latest Famitsu, as does HAWX

killzone219

Famitsu thinks Killzone 2′s worth 32/40, according to the game’s review in the magazine’s latest issue. The Guerrilla shooter was given 8/8/8/8 by the mag’s panel.

Tom Clancy’s HAWX got exactly the same score, meaning that either Killzone 2 is as good as HAWX, or HAWX is as good as Killzone 2.

The obvious question: is either as good as Halo?

Get the rest of the marks from NeoGAF.

Capcom shoots down Devil May Cry for PSP

dmc4

Famitsu’s latest issue says that Capcom will not be releasing Devil May Cry on PSP, despite announcing it four years ago, reports IGN.

This information was derived from the weekly release schedule, which no longer has the game listed. A note was included saying the game has been canceled.

Capcom announced the PSP version of DMC back in 2005, but nothing has ever been shown of the game by the way of assets or gameplay information.

Now we know why.

Looks like a lightgun game with Leon and Claire, kids.
