Over at Kotaku, Superannuation has been digging up dirt on the internet as he does, and he found that this ex-Lionhead staffer said he worked on a project that has not been announced as well as the co-op Xobx One title Fable Legends. Could be another of the type of little mini-game collection like Pub Games, though.

Fable Legends developer Lionhead Studios has penned a blog on the Unreal Engine site praising Epic’s fourth revision of the tool-set. Figures at the company have praised the tech, stating that it has allowed for new levels of detail throughout the world of Albion.

Peter Molyneux, formerly of Lionhead and currently running indie house 22 Cans (Godus), is still keeping an eye on the Fable franchise, but as a “fan” now. While he admits some things his old studio appear to be doing with the series now make him feel a little weird, he is “intrigued” by Legends, the next-gen co-op iteration of the series.

Fable Legends will let players get morally involved in their hero’s quest, similarly to previous instalments. However, the character you choose will also determine the nature of those choices and the relationships with other people. Lionhead has discussed the mechanics in a new interview.

Fable: Legends will be around quite a long while, according to Lionhead boss John Needham. Speaking with GI International, Needham said the development team is looking to keep the game going for at least 5-10 years. “We’re playing the long game with this,” he said. “This is the next big Fable game that is going to be out for five to ten years so it needs to be big, it needs to be interesting. There needs to be a lot of stuff to do, it needs to integrate all the cloud and Xbox One features so we keep our community alive and growing. It’s big and ambitious, but it needs to be because it’s going to be around a long time.” The persistent online title with four player co-op, has yet to be given a release date.

Fable: Legends appears to be some sort of MMO or persistent online take on Lionhead’s franchise, but when asked if the Xbox One title would require an always-on connection, game director David Eckelberry said he didn’t know.

Xbox One is getting Fable: Legends as an exclusive. It was announced at Microsoft’s gamescom presser.

Microsoft has registered two new Fable-related domains – FableLegends.com and FableLegends.net. There’s no clue as to what the domains may refer to. The platform holder has promised new reveals at gamescom this week, and we have no idea what Lionhead Studios has been up to since 2012 Kinect title Fable: The Journey besides the Fable 1 remake, so it might be worth staying tuned. The core series has been dormant since 2010′s Fable 3, but Microsoft showed it isn’t averse to spin-offs with 2012′s XBLA release Fable Heroes.
