eyepet

Sony France’s George Fornay has announced in an interview that EyePet 2 is currently in development.

Apparently, the little monkey thing was popular enough over in Europe to warrant a sequel.

EyePet: “Intention is to build something bigger than a single game”

eyepet5

EyePet dev lead Nic Doucet’s told VG247 that EyePet is merely the “beginning” of a franchise, and that more games based on the IP will be released in the future.

“For us, it’s the beginning,” said the developer, speaking in a phone interview last week.

“We’re creating a franchise. We’re hoping to really rally a lot of support and have a big success.

“The intention is to build something bigger than a single game.”

The first EyePet game, which releases on October 23, features a solitary monkey pet thing which responds to your movements via the PlayStation Eye.

Doucet was answering reader questions in a Q&A sessions we’ll publish in the next few days.

EyePet misses 2009 in the US

The American version of EyePet won’t release this year, SCEA’s confirmed.

“The North American territory has decided to take additional time to focus on the EyePet product and can confirm it will not be available this holiday,” the publisher told Gamespot in a statement.

“EyePet is an innovative and exciting new IP to the PS3 platform and SCEA marketing will spend additional time to continue educating consumers and retail channels, setting the table for a successful product launch. We will provide more details on an updated launch timeframe very soon.”

Unlucky, Americans. It’s awesome. The camera-based monkey game releases in Europe on October 23.

EyePet – 15-minute play movie and photos of final version

eyepet3

A final version of PlayStation Eye game EyePet turned up this morning in an amazing expanding pop-up box thing containing the camera, final code and the little paw pad used to control objects on the screen.

I filmed myself playing it with my daughter, with support from my twin sons, for about 15 minutes – get the movie and photos of the pack after the break.

You’ll see the game show you how to set up your room, fix the lighting, how to position the camera, and so on. You’ll also here me say, “Come on Mr Egg.” This isn’t usual. The video shows the first stages of your little monkey’s life, with you hatching him, warming him up, giving him a name and helping him bounce around on a trampoline.

To be honest, it’s the cutest game in the world. Ever. Hit the link to see why.

New Eight Days screens and videos surface

eight-days

Remember Eight Days?

You know, the game that Sony showed at E3 2006, with a pre-rendered trailer that tried to fool us as a real-time gameplay trailer? Yeah, that Eight Days.

It got canned, don’t you know. But now, all we have left is these leaked screens and videos which have come out. The screens also show that Gary Oldman and Ving Rhames were going to be forming a part of the cast for the game.

They make us wish this wasn’t canned for EyePet – that is if the apparent myth is true.

Find the screens and videos over at Game Particles.

EyePet landing in stores November 17

eyepet

Sony has announced that EyePet will land in the US November 17 for $39.99 or bundled with PlayStation Eye for $59.99.

Be prepared for your “real” pets to freak out.

Apparently, the little guy is customizable, “letting you modify fur length, color and pattern, as well as the ability to outfit your pet with more than 250 unique collectible items”, according to the US PS Blog.

There’s a video of it after the break, and more through the link.

New PS3 boxart emerges – we wonder why?

new-ps3-bo

Run for the hills, children. It’s all about to kick off.

DotDash has put online what appears to be a brand new look to the PS3 boxart: kicking off with Eyepet.

Before, you’d have the Spider-Man logo with the PS logo going down the left side of the cover. But with this, it seems to be reverting to the old days of the PS2 sleeve, with just the PS logo and the Playstation Network logo slapped on it at the top.

Massive obvious hint: here’s the most likely reason why it’s changed.

Tomorrow – we know all.

Sony confirms US holiday release for EyePet

eyepet2

Sony has confirmed that PlayStation Eye game, EyePet, will land in the US just in time for the holiday shopping extravaganza.

The game will release as a stand-alone title as well as via a bundle with the camera.

No exact date was forthcoming, but Cologne is right around the corner, so hopefully things will be firmed up for both sides of the pond come next month.

Thanks, Joystiq.

EyePet – First official shots released

eyepet1.jpg

SCEE’s released the first shots of EyePet, the next-gen EyeToy game it announced at Games Convention last month.

The title was shown off during Sony’s press conference, and looked very cool, truth be told. A family was seen playing with a customisable monkey, as you can see in the screens.

After the break.
