Three new classes for EverQuest Next have been announced: the Beast Lord, Cleric and Necromancer. This bring the class total to eight when you include: Blademaster, Rogue, Tempest, Warrior and Wizard. In all there will be 40 classes. The news was announced as part of a feature in the latest issue of PC Gamer, which details each of the three aforementioned newcomers along with the Tempest. EQN will be free-to-play and ties into EverQuest Next Landmark. Neither have been dated. Thanks, Massively.

EverQuest Next Landmark was shown off during an SOE livestream on Twitch a few days ago, and if you missed out on it like I did, you can rewatch it below. In it, director of development Dave Georgeson, community manager Colette Murphy, and senior producer Terry Michaels chat about the Landmark Founder’s Packs and show off the building tools as associate producer Eric Smith constructs a castle live in-game. EverQuest Next Landmark will be handled by Sony Online Entertainment in all regions, which mean those in Europe will not have to go through Prosiebensat.1 to play the game or its beta. Here’s the quote: “We are delivering an entirely new and unique approach to MMO game design and development with EverQuest Next Landmark, and given that SOE’s Player Studio program is one of the cornerstones of EverQuest Next Landmark, SOE will directly manage EQNL and Player Studio for all regions.” Beta sign ups for Landmark are through here.

EverQuest Next Landmark director Dave Georgeson has said the combat system in the game will contain the same mechanics as EverQuest Next. Speaking in an interview with Forbes, Georgeson said both will also share the emergent AI system built into EQ Next, only it may not be used in the same manner in Landmark. “EverQuest Next is more of a focused narrative with story arcs and rallying calls, [and] emergent AI pushing things around,” he said. “Landmark is very much an exploration in creativity and making things that are cool to show off to other players.”
Combat won’t be available in Landmark at launch but till be released soon afterward. EverQuest Next and the free-to-play Landmark have not been dated. Thanks, Massively.
