EA Sports Active now has TWO real-world stores
EA Sports Active stores are spreading, it seems. The San Francisco brick and mortar outlet we reported on yesterday isn’t alone: Boston’s also lucky enough to be able to go and look at very blonde, very fatless people get very excited about crouching in front of a TV screen.
Visitors get a “personalized” demo to the product. Details here.
The Boston store’s got a scooter in it too. Why? Thanks, Joystiq.

EA Sports Active retail store opens in SF, contains scooter
EA Sports Active is properly go, if this image on NeoGAF’s to be believed. EA’s opened a retail store complete dedicated to the hit fitness franchise, which, inexplicably, features a black scooter on its floor.
Why? Who knows. EA probably isn’t arguing.
Thanks, GoNintendo.

Moore to Obama: try EA Sports Active and say you’ll “Yes you Can!” to videogames

In the wake of Barack Obama saying that a US Health Care reform entails “going for a run or hitting the gym, and raising our children to step away from the video games and spend more time playing outside,” EA Sports’ Peter Moore has issued the President a challenge: Try EA SPORTS Active and I guarantee you’ll need aides saying “Yes You Can!” to finish your first workout.
Moore writes that he still finds Nintendo Wii a refreshing experience and believes “there are more consoles getting far more use in American homes than there is exercise equipment, so it’s up to us to continue to use the platform for good.”

Peter Moore says user reviews more relevant than Metacritic

Peter Moore says that user reviews pertaining to Wii titles are more relevant that Metacritic because titles that get a 70 can still sell millions of copies.
Speaking with Gamasutra, Moore said that when it comes to EA Sports Active, “We’re not going to Kotaku or Operation Sports on this one, we’re going to Amazon.”
“The thing is with the Wii, it seems to be for the gaming sites, it’s the last platform they review,” he continued. “It takes a time to get an actual review score. I would pretty much guarantee that just about every Wii game ships without a Metacritic rating because [reviewers] haven’t got around, to it or they’re not interested in reviewing it.
“I absolutely guarantee you, the thing we’re watching most closely now [with Wii titles] is things like Amazon – and I’ll go look at women’s magazines that have powerful websites, and then we look at what we call ‘mommy bloggers’.
“That’s where those people go for their information. They are not going to Metacritic. They don’t know Metacritic exists.”

Riccitiello: Aiming for top Wii billing is “obvious”

Aiming for top products on Wii, gaming’s biggest living room console, is a no-brainer, EA boss John Riccitiello has told Gamasutra.
“It’s the first time a third party has been number one on the Wii platform two weeks in a row,” he said of the success of EA Sports Active since launch.
“The number one platform is expanding the market, and growing. Having a lead position there seems like an obvious thing for us to do.”
The exec said EA’s cracked the Wii formula, something that’s proven evasive for many third-parties.
“I think we realized what it takes to be successful on the platform,” he added.
“No ports and pushes – do things that optimize against the controller system inherent in the wand and nunchuk.”
More through there.

This was announced during the press conference at E3.
Loads of people liked the look of it apparently. Alison Sweeny took the stage with it too. You know, Sammy from Days of Our Lives?
Cool glad you know her.

EA: Vision for Wii is “long-term”, ready to make “new games and take risks”

EA has stated that its “vision for Wii is a long-term one” and the company is ready to take risks and make some new games.
According to an interview with the company’s senior producer Joe Booth, the game industry has “woken up to the Wii in the right way.”
“The vision for the Nintendo group at Electronic Arts is a long-term one,” he told Official Nintendo Magazine. “We always want to have a balanced portfolio but we also want to break some new games and take some risks.
“I can’t speak for the rest of the industry or all of EA but I can speak for my group when I say I think we’ve turned a corner and the industry has woken up to Wii in the right way.
Booth also said that EA has a lot of passion for the games it’s creating, and the people who work there contribute to the enthusiasm.
“We’re seeing a lot of new energy on the platform,” he added. “One of the things I’ve found when I’ve been building the Nintendo group is that there’s a lot of very passionate people here. Our job is to find people that can be passionate about Wii and our mission.”
Booth is currently overseeing Need for Speed: Nitro which is a DS and Wii.

Moore: EA Sports Active is “bigger than a game, bigger than a franchise, bigger than a product”

EA Sport boss Peter Moore has told VG247 that EA Sports Active is to become a major platform for the company.
“It’s bigger than a game, bigger than a franchise, bigger than a product,” he said, talking in the first part of a London interview, published today.
“It’s a true platform that we can sell expansion packs, sell more peripherals, ultimately get some download on there.”
Moore added that the future iterations of the product may include heartbeat data from wireless monitors.
“I’ve got to figure out how to get your biometrics on the screen. If I can do that, if I can get your heart-rate on the screen, I mean then I can really drive towards what my vision of this product ultimately can be.
“It’s not difficult, but it’s not cheap. I mean, you can find heart monitors that give off wirelessly, but I’ve got to figure out how to get a transceiver, if you will, on the screen. Once we do that I think we’ve really stepped up.”

Moore – EA Sports Active makes us “uncomfortable”

EA Sports boss Peter Moore has told MI6 that EA Sports Active makes the company feel “uncomfortable”.
Apparently this is a good thing.
“They say that if it makes you feel uncomfortable, it’s innovative,” Moore said.
“[EA Sports Active] makes us feel very uncomfortable. We drip with testosterone. We are all about male-fueled angst, agony, delight in sport.”
Whereas the average player of EA Sports Active will “probably be a woman, 35, with two kids at home,” who wants to stay fit, Moore said.
There’s more on VentureBeat. EA Sports Active ships on May 22.

Peter Moore talks WMP, EA Sports Active, Ali vs Tyson

EA Sports’ Peter Moore has spoken to Sporting News about how his new sports games – coupled with Wii MotionPlus – are going to change the way gamers perceive the genre.
As an avid tennis player, Moore wanted people to get up off the couch to play Grand Slam Tennis, he said.
“What the Wii MotionPlus allows you to do is do a true authentic sports motion. When you swing the racket and you bring it back for an overhead lob or smash, then that is reflected,” he said.
“The amount of sensitivity that now brings allows true sports motion. It’s the same with golf. What you can do with Wii Motion Plus is truly bring it back, swing through the club and then it allows you to hit draws, fades and hooks.”
Moore also talked about how with current-gen consoles, even best-sellers like Tiger Woods did not offer a “full” form of interaction with Wii’s controls, with which the company has found developmentally difficult to attain total immersion.
“It’s been a little more difficult when you take a game like basketball and how do you bring that to life with the Wii Remote? When you take a game like hockey, it’s a little easier because you’ve got a stick in your hand,” he said.
“Tiger has been great. We’ve made some strides with Madden. I think you’ll find that the work we’re going to do in Tennis in particular, where it feels very natural and you’ve got this range of motion that recognizes your wrist turning that is going to allow to have some sensitivity in the racket”.
Moving on to EA Sports Active, Moore is not deterred by people who purchased Wii Fit. He feels that the exercises contained in that game were more appealing to balance and coordination enthusiasts — meaning more of an Eastern philosophy to exercise.
Western physical fitness is based more around cardio, and this is where he feels EA will succeed with Sports Active.
Finally, asked about the cover to EA Fight Night Round 4 featuring Ali and Tyson, he said that the cover was chosen because it would be a “quintessential” dream fight.
“Ali will hold him off for six or seven rebounds, keeping him at arm’s length and then go in for the kill and probably take a knockout by 10 or 11 — or in the old days, round 12 or 13,” he said.
