Sony seeks feedback on new DualShock colours
A post on the US PS Blog has invited fans to submit designs for a new line of coloured DualShock controllers. You can submit your idea or vote on others’ contributions here. So far RainbowShock 3 has the most votes in our in office poll, especially as a bunch of dudebros have downvoted it, but I’m the only one here so vote as your conscience dictates. Sony’s DualShock controllers have been made available in a wide variety of colours including pink, jungle green and metallic blue.

Yahoo! – PS3 is “all fun and games until the battery dies”
This is brilliant. An article on Yahoo! Finance about Christmas gifts has claimed that PS3′s pads must be replaced after running out of charge.
“It’s all fun and games until the battery dies,” said author Anne Kadet. “Unlike its competitors, which use replaceable AA batteries, the PS3′s remote control is glued shut. When the battery goes, Sony customers have to blow $55 on a new controller.”
You’re right, Anne. That really is a glaring design fault.
The frantic hole-digging continues: “Sony says there’s an ‘environmental benefit’ since gamers don’t have to toss their batteries on a regular basis, but Isidor Buchmann, president of battery-equipment maker Cadex Electronics, says captive batteries are becoming common because it’s cheaper for companies to eliminate the battery housing and hatch.”
Spectacular. Merry Christmas. Thanks, mart.

Sony sued again over controller rumble

Sony may have settled its patent case with Immersion of DualShock rumble, but it’s not out of the woods yet. Craig Thorner, an engineer who held a few patents related to the firm’s rumble tech, is now suing Sony, claiming the PlayStation-maker colluded with another firm to make him accept “unfavourable terms” in the Immersion case, one he appeared in as a witness.
The Immersion case dragged to a close in 2007, but Thorner claims he was hoodwinked by a group of lawyers who were acting for Sony at the time.
There’s a summary on Patent Arcade. Thanks, Kotaku.

80Gb PS3 confirmed for Europe, says French site
GI was right it seems: according to Jeux Video the 80Gb is a definite for Europe and will cost the same as the current 40Gb.
Best news of all, though, is that the new SKU will apparently come bundled with the DualShock 3 controller. It doesn’t look as though backwards compatibility has made the cut, however.

SCEE on Euro DualShock 3: We can’t guarantee day one shipments to all
Speaking to MCV, SCEE has admitted it may find satisfying day one European shipments of DualShock 3 difficult this week, but that more units are on the way.
Said Mark Howsen, SCEE’s UK sales director, “It’s going to be a close call as to whether we can guarantee enough stock for everybody day one, however, we’ll be making regular shipments thereafter, in order to satisfy demand.”
There’s info there that Sixaxis will continue alongside the new controller as well. Fancy.
“We’ll continue to offer the Sixaxis controller for the time being, giving consumers a cost effective buying choice, based on their gaming needs,” said Howsen. “Moving forwards, we’ll monitor demand at retail.”
DualShock 3′s out in Europe tomorrow. More through the link.

European DualShock 3 launch is “imminent”, says SCEE president
Speaking to videogaming247 at the SCEE PlayStation Day in London yesterday, SCEE president David Reeves confirmed that DualShock 3 will be launching in Europe very soon.
“The DualShock 3 launch is imminent,” he told us in answer to a remark we made on the fact a Sixaxis is included in the newly-announced European MGS4 bundle.
The Euro boss gave no other hint as to when we’re specifically going to see the controller over here, or whether or not we’ve going to see it release before Metal Gear’s launch on June 12.
DualShock 3 has already launched in both America and Japan.

DualShock 3 Oz date has no bearing on Euro launch, says SCEE
SCEE has just told videogaming247 that the Australian date and price for DualShock 3 has no bearing on the European launch for the controller, which remains unannounced.
“The date in the Australian press release refers to the Australian market only,” said a rep. “Whilst DS3 will come to all SCEE territories at some point, at the moment we are not in a position to announce exactly when.”
Sony Australia just confirmed the controller for an April 24 launch down under, priced A$99.95 (£47 or $92).
