Square Enix will select the first beta testers for Dragon Quest X by next week. The first batch of testers will be selected on January 31. If you don’t get accepted – if you live in Japan anyways – you can still make it into further rounds. Applications for the online RPG began back in November of last year, and are still being accepted now.
Dragon Quest X has no date, but will launch on Wii and Wii U with additional support for 3DS. Thanks, Andriasang.

Shonen Jump has published first story details for Dragon Quest X. The Wii MMO begins in the small village of Etene, with the story set on two siblings who lost their parents while young. You play as one sibling, and can create two brothers, two sisters or one of each. At some point in the game, after starting as a human, you’ll be transformed to become part of one of a non-human tribe.
There’s more on Andriasang. DQX arrives next year for Wii and Wii U.

Do you ache to see more of Dragon Quest X? Do the very fibers of your being vibrate with longing for Square Enix’s next slime-soaked opus? Well, we’re sorry. This is going to be a really uncomfortable wait for you. But hey, here’s something to sort of ease the pain: ten minutes of gameplay footage from the recent press conference. Word of warning: the video’s grainier than a sand sandwich, so you may want to squint a little. Still though, it’s significantly better than nothing and even demonstrates what appears to be a bit of the crafting system. Check out the full thing after the break. Thanks, CVG.

Square Enix has fully detailed the Dragon Quest Collection that’s coming to Wii in Japan, which will now arrive on September 15 for ¥4,440. The collection, which will have Wiimakes [\o/ - JC] of Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest II and Dragon Quest III, will also include the very first footage of Dragon Quest X. Literally nothing has been seen or heard of the game – not even a logo – since its 2008 announce for Wii. Note it in the diary: it’ll be up on YouTube before you know it.
There’s a couple more things of note that come with the collection at Andriasang.
