Dragon Quest V has sold 1.2 million copies in Japan alone since releasing in July, Edge reports, according to new figures released by Square Enix.
The figure is probably higher as it does not take into account any sales data from 2009.
The title is set for release in the US and Britain later this week.
Here’s all the numbers released, showing sales for the nine months ending December 31.
- Dragon Quest V – 1.19m
- Dissidia: Final Fantasy – 780,000
- Chrono Trigger DS – 710,000
- Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII – 700,000
- Last Remnant – 490,000
- Final Fantasy IV DS – 480,000
- Infinite Undiscovery – 440,000
- Final Fantasy Tactics A2 DS – 340,000
- Dragon Quest IV – 300,000

Square Enix’s six months ending September 31 have shown a 13.9 percent rise in profit to ¥6 billion ($61.8 million) on slightly decreased revenue, compared to ¥5.2 billion ($53.2 million) during the same period in 2007.
The Dragon Quest V DS remake is pinned as a major contributing factor to the rise, having sold 1.15 million units in Japan since it released in June.
Plenty more on Gamasutra.

Square Enix announced this afternoon that Dragon Quest IV, V and VI are to release in Europe.
The first game will ship this September.
John Yamamoto, Square Enix ultimate boss, said, “DRAGON QUEST: The Chapters of the Chosen is another excellent addition to the beloved DRAGON QUEST series. I hope that game players throughout Europe will enjoy the humour and excitement and look forward to future adventures with DRAGON QUEST: The Hand of the Heavenly Bride and DRAGON QUEST: Realms of Reverie.”
Do you reckon he shouts when he says, “DRAGON QUEST”? Can’t be the best person to work for.
Press release after the link.
