Next Dragon Age: Origins DLC coming soon, dropping story to focus on combat

Real adventurers don’t need silly old reasons to risk life and limb by delving deep into suicidally dangerous dungeons. They do it because, you know, why not? They’ve already saved the world, and there’s nothing decent on TV tonight, so why not go out for a nice stroll where most men fear to tread? It’s something to do, at least.

Interview – BioWare’s Dr Greg on Dragon Age 2 and the triple-A trap

Greg Zeschuk thinks triple-A console development is a “bad idea right now”. He thinks creativity is being forced out of the top end of games creation by financial pressure. He doesn’t want a new console hardware round, because the world’s developers have only just got their “legs” with this one.

He says the right things. Greg Zeschuk is a sound person. He’s also the co-head of BioWare, the world’s greatest RPG studio. We met him at Develop in Brighton today – following his keynote this morning – to talk about the Great Dragon Age 2 Not Being Able to Choose Your Race controversy, the pressures of working on a project like Star Wars: The Old Republic and tons more.

Video – DAO: Darkspawn Chronicles

BioWare has released a video for Darkspawn Chronicles, the upcoming DLC for Dragon Age that lets you play as one of the nefarious villains.

You can expect the standalone adventure to hit PC, PSN, and XBL on May 18, so you may want to start thinking about how you’re going to control all those genlocks, hurlocks, ogres and shrieks.

In it, you are introduced to a former knight in the King’s Service named Mhairi, who looks forward to fighting at your side, giggity, and plans to avenge her pal Roland whom the Darkspawn killed.
