Dota 2 surpasses Skyrim to break Steam users record

20120621dota2

Dota 2 has surpassed The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to nab the record of most concurrent users on Steam. Dota 2 peaked at 297,010 users on March 1, overtaking Skyrim’s 287,411, which at the RPG’s launch was the highest total player number Valve’s service had ever recorded for a single title. The occasion was noted by a Reddit user and even charted, showing the MOBA’s player base growing steadily; expect it to hold the record for quite some time.

DOTA 2′s Australian servers are just a few weeks away, Valve’s Milton Ngan, a likely sympathetic New Zealand-born staffer, revealed on the MOBA’s developer forum. The equipment for Valve’s Sydney data centre has “just arrived”, apparently, and should be racked and configured by January 2013.
