Midway files for Chapter 11

midwaylogo

Midway’s filed for Chapter 11, it’s been confirmed.

“This was a difficult but necessary decision,” said boss Matt Booty.

“We have been focused on realigning our operations and improving our execution, and this filing will relieve the immediate pressure from our creditors and provide us time for an orderly exploration of our strategic alternatives. This Chapter 11 filing is the next logical step in an ongoing process to address our capital structure.”

The move is supposed to allow the firm to restructure while essentially being bankrupt.

Atari revenue plummets as vultures circle

Atari’s posted fiscal 2008 revenues of $80.1 million compared to $122.3 million the previous year, and has admitted it now has no valuable IP left to sell.

“During fiscal 2008, we completely terminated our product development activities and we granted IESA a seven year license to exploit our last remaining valuable game franchise,” the firm said. “Further, we increasingly focused our efforts on distributing products published by IESA. These steps substantially reduced our revenues.”

Confirmed: EA puts Red Alert 3 PS3 on hold

redalert36.jpg

EA’s just confirmed to videogaming247 that Red Alert PS3 has definitely been put on hold. A PR rep issued the following statement:

“We can confirm that the development of Red Alert 3 for PS3 has been put on hold. EA LA is focusing resources on development for PC and Xbox 360 which will ship simultaneously this autumn.”

And that’s that. No one seems to know quite why the PS3 version’s been pushed back and it doesn’t sound like there’s going to be any comment on this other than the above right now.

The news solidified properly last night when GameStop was rumoured to have pulled the SKU.

Red Alert PS3 cancelled?

redalert3a2.jpg

PSU is reporting that according to its GameStop source, EA has removed Command and Conquer: Red Alert PS3 from their release list.

Apparently the game’s community development manager has told the site the he “can’t speak of the PS3 version right now.”

The PlayStation SKU was recently rumoured to be running into problems after it was left out of listed formats at the end of a trailer. Looks as though the fears were well-founded.

No official word from EA as yet.
