Modders place working Mortal Kombat 2 arcade machine inside Doom map
Modders have managed to create a fully-operational Mortal Kombat 2 arcade cab into a Doom multiplayer map. The cab runs the SNES version of Probe’s brawler, so if you just want to play that instead of shooting each other stupid then you can.

Doom 4 is being revamped for next-gen consoles, according to a confirmation from Bethesda handed over to Eurogamer.

DOOM 3: BFG Edition now available in US, watch the launch trailer here
DOOM 3: BFG Edition is available now in North America and will release on Friday in the UK for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. BFG Edition includes the original versions DOOM and DOOM 2, as well as the re-mastered versions of DOOM 3 and its Resurrection of Evil add-on pack. It even includes eight never-before-seen DOOM 3 levels in The Lost Mission. Later today, PS3 players will be able to download the game directly on PSN, and if you own DOOM 3 on Steam, between now and November 13 you can save $10 on your purchase.

Prince of Persia creator publishes 30 year old fanmail from John Romero
Nearly 30 years ago, Jordan Mechner – the man who went on to create Prince of Persia – received a fan letter in response to his earlier work, one-on-one fighter Karateka. The author praised Mechner’s graphics (particularly the scrolling background), and mentioned that he was a budding programmer who wanted to grow up to create games.
The young letter writer was John Romero, who did indeed grow up and create games, helping to popularise the FPS genre while he was at it.

DOOM now available worldwide through XBL Marketplace
Bethesda has announced id Software’s famous shooter, DOOM, is now available through Xbox Live Marketplace worldwide- even in Germany. So much for the banned list, eh? You can download the 1993 classic for 400 Microsoft Points.

Quakecon – No “major announcements” in press conf, says Willits
There will be no “major announcements” in tonight’s Quakecon keynote, id super-boss Tim Willits said at the Texan event today.
The exec said that the press conference will instead focus on updates for already-announced games.
And that means no DOOM 4 for you, Ringo.
Willits dropped the tidbits in an overheard press room chat. The walls have ears, Tim.

DOOM, Rage and Bethesda games snapped on Quakecon stage
We’ve received the first image of the Quakecon stage as it’s being set up, and it looks as though we may be getting a look at something DOOM-related tonight.
The DOOM logo’s on the banners at the side of the main stage for today’s event, as are Brink, Fallout 3, Rage, Wolfenstein, QuakeLive and Rage.
Looks like Quakecon isn’t so much about Quake any more.
We’ll be liveblogging both the main conference and the John Carmack presser this evening, kicking off at 3.30pm Texas time.
