More hints at id’s “future generation” console game
Here’s one final nugget from Superannuation’s regular column of industry archaeology: Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein and Rage developer id Software is recruiting staff to work on “future generation consoles”. It’s not clear what the Bethesda-owned developer is up to at the moment, although we’re waiting on a Doom 4 announce. Hiring for next-generation platforms is definitely in fashion at the moment; Infinity Ward and Microsoft are both at it again this week.
Thanks, Kotaku.

id Software hasn’t “forgotten about” RAGE, says Willits
Tim Willits, studio director at id Software, has said the firm hasn’t forgotten about RAGE. Speaking with GameReactor at E3, Willits said: “We have a few things that we may announce soon, but I’m not sure. We haven’t forgotten about the title, and as soon as we have more news, we will definitely announce it.” As far as whether DOOM 4 is ready to be revealed, Willits would not be drawn in, only stating that if it were, the release of DOOM 3: BFG would be a “great time,” to do it. So, in other words, not yet. DOOM 4 was announced as being in production in May 2008.

Interview – “The biggest year in our company’s history,” by Bethesda’s Pete Hines

This year will be the biggest in Bethesda’s history. An RPG sequel anticipated for aeons; the first new IP from id Software in 15 years; one of the most anticipated shooters in the industry this year; and a dungeon crawler which fuses old days with new.
Post-release DLC for one of last year’s biggest hits is a also certainty for 2011, but the anticipation of future releases is likely to further add to this year’s importance for the publisher: three new studios – one from the east – are coming on board with new projects with the company and, obviously there’s a chance at getting a look at DOOM4 this year.
With so much going on at Bethesda it seemed like a good time to catch up. We spoke last week with the company’s VP of marketing and PR, Pete Hines.
