Red Faction: Guerrilla PC has additional graphics but lacks DirectX 11 support

Matt Toschlog, president of Reactor Zero, Rick White, producer at Volition, and physics programmer Eric Arnold answered questions posed by PC Games Hardware regarding whether Red Faction: Guerrilla would support versions DirectX beyond DirectX 10 – namely 10.1 or 11.
Reagrding this, Toschlog said that the reason the PC version is being released later than the console versions was so extra work on supporting DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 could be accomplished. Also, the developers wanted to add some extra graphical features such as Sun Shafts (God Rays) and Screen-Space Ambient Occlusion.
“We’re supporting Direct X 9 and Direct X 10,” Toschlog told the site. “Since we’re supporting both DX 9 and DX 10, the PC code was actually more complicated than if we’d just supported one API.
“That said, some things were easier under DX 10. In particular, we know that all DX 10 devices will support features such as hardware PCF shadow mapping.
“The graphics are largely the same under DX 9 and DX 10. A few advanced features – such as Screen-Space Ambient Occlusion – only work under DX 10. As for speed, there isn’t a big difference between the two APIs.
“It’s true that most features can be done with both DX 9 and DX 10. Since Direct X is the dominant API on the PC, we expect to be using whatever new versions are available for years to come.”
Just not with this title, apparently.
Game’s out for PC September 15 in the US.

DiRT 2 PC pushed to December, to have DirectX 11 elements

Codemasters said today that the PC version of DiRT 2 will “support the wealth of new performance enhancing features that will be available in DirectX 11.”
In order to get the features in, however, the game needs to “benefit from an extended development program” and ship in December. Not September. As originally planned.
DX11 hardware is expected in the back half of the year. The upgrade will ship with Windows 7 and as a download for Vista.
PR after the break. We’re saying nothing.

Great. We just updated ours.
According to a report from VentureBeat, this next-gen batch will be so fantastic it’s “bound to drive the stock prices of the rivals involved either up or down through the rest of the year”.
Both will incorporate 40nm chips on the cards, and are expected to support DirectX 11 within a year.
AMD plans to release its new tech to coincide with the launch of Windows 7, while Nvidia are keeping mum on when its lovely chip will be released.

DirectX 11 announced at Gamefest
As expected, Microsoft has announced DirectX 11 at its US Gamefest event.
The software will be backwards compatible with DX10 hardware. There doesn’t appear to have been a release date announced for it.
“We want to break away from purely having a paradigm of pixels, vertices and shaders,” said XNA boss Chris Satchell, speaking in his keynote at the event. “DX11 is totally compatible with DX10. There’s not that 9/10 discontinuity we created before.”
Satchell also explained the delay in switching from 32-bit to 64-bit architecture is a software problem.
“We’ve been shipping 64-bit CPUs on the hardware side for awhile,” he said. “We’re not at the point where the 64-bit OS is catching up. I think we are [there] in the next six to eight months.”
Thanks Gaming Today and Gama.
