Square Enix Japan doing Deus Ex 3 cinematics
Square Enix Japan is to work on Deus Ex 3 cinematics, Eidos Montreal studio GM Stephane D’Astous has told Edge.
“Deus Ex 3 is going to be the first project which will be a concrete product of joint effort between Square Enix and Eidos,” said D’Astous.
“The cinematics — by which I mean any CGI pre-rendered cinematics — are going to be done in Tokyo by Square Enix, and that’s going to be amazing.”
D’Astous added: “It was in April when Square Enix acquired us, and by June, July I was trying to think of a project we could do together. One morning I woke up and I said, we’ll, they’re known for their cinematics, so why not get them involved with those?”
Should be super-cool. Hit the link for more. The FPRPG’s out next year.

New Deus Ex 3 details show characters, locations
Czech site Hratelne.cz‘s previewed Deus Ex 3, throwing up what appears to be a bunch of new details about the Eidos Montreal prequel. There’s a translation on the Eidos forumsJoystiq reports.
The game will feature five major locations, including Shanghai, Detroit and Montreal, all moving towards the formation of UNATCO, the organization served by the original Deus Ex’s protagonist, JC Denton.
The third game’s lead character is called Adam Jensen.
Interestingly, the article also notes that the dialogue system depends on a player’s ability to read facial expressions and body language, the proper judgement of which will help to reveal the best response.
There’s no date on the game as yet.

“Console-isation isn’t about dumbing down features,” says Deus Ex 3 dev
In an interview with Edge magazine (out tomorrow), Deus Ex 3 lead game designer, Jean-Francois Dugas, said that the “console-isation [of games] isn’t about dumbing down features.”
“At this point we don’t know exactly which platforms we’re going to be out on,” said Dugas. “The PC, we’ll be there for sure.
“But for us, console-isation isn’t about dumbing down features. If we’re to go console we will want to keep the complexity alive. We want the menu interface and controller to feel simple without risking any of their potential.”

Deus Ex 3 stealth is “cover-based,” not in the shadows
Following the publication of first solid Deus Ex 3 story details yesterday, an Eidos Montreal staffer’s added a few more tidbits in a mail to Voodoo Extreme, including confirmation that the light-shadow stealth system from the previous games has been dropped.
Deus Ex 3 is indeed an RPG. It’s a hybrid action/RPG just like the first game. There is a skill system where you upgrade your character (Adam) based off experience points you earn and you can do the same thing with weapons. It’s a game with a very detailed plot with numerous characters you interact with. The gameplay takes the form of a consequence-driven multi-path, multi-solution approach in a non-linear space.
For stealth, that is another major pillar of gameplay and we do have it. The difference is that it’s now cover-based rather than “shadow/light-based” as in the past games.
More through there.

Deus Ex 3 gets plot details from PC Zone
The 200th issue of PC Zone, as expected, has yielded a Deus Ex 3 cover preview, which contains the first solid details of the Eidos Montreal sequel. From CVG:
You’re cast as average joe Adam Jensen, who works as a private security officer at a technology lab specialising in biomechanical augmentations, a forerunner to the sort of nanotechnology shown in the original Deus Ex. One day the path of his life is unexpectedly altered as a team of black ops commandos break into his company’s HQ, and using a security plan from Jensen’s own hand, a mass slaughter ensues and the conspiracy begins.
“Deus Ex 3′s vision of the future sees holographic screens flicker atop ferries moving back and forth in front of the Shanghai skyline, now split into two layers with the rich on the top and the poor in perpetual twilight below,” says PCZ.
More through there. No date, though. There’s a ten-page feature in the issue, out October 9.
