VentureBeat’s Dean Takahashi has placed his hands on Wii U during E3, and found the console has capability issues due to its single processor having to drive multiple displays.

In an essay on why now’s an exciting time to be involved in the games industry, VentureBeat’s Dean Takahashi’s stuck his leg in the sand on Cloud gaming – he reckons it’s pretty much a done deal.

“OnLive doesn’t have to kill the console makers to succeed,” said the journo.

“It will become a wildly successful company if it can simply establish video games on demand as a viable channel. And even if OnLive itself doesn’t make it, it is almost inevitable that game cloud computing will thrive.”

OnLive “expects to launch a games on demand service in the fall that is very much like Xbox Live,” Takahashi added.

“You will be able to play high-end games on low-end computers. That’s unbelievable. Many people have reacted to this by saying it is impossible. But it is no more impossible than 2D-Boy creating The World of Goo and getting a bestseller out of it.”

OnLive was announced at GDC this year to general disbelief that the service can work.

Mike Antonucci, the San Jose Mercury News journalist named by Peter Moore in his recent Guardian interview as “really pushing hard” on the issue of Xbox 360 failure rates, has contacted VG247 to set the record straight on the subject.

Antonucci, who’s now moved on from the paper, conducted the interview in which Moore famously said that “things break” in relation to the RROD problem.

Antonucci told us this morning that both he and Dean Takahashi – author of The Xbox 360 Uncloaked – had mailed the Guardian to show that Moore hadn’t been “pushed” in the interview, or that Antonucci had taken his remark out of context, saying that, “Perhaps the loss of context is a reference to other reporting that quoted my interview with him.”

According to this, longstanding San Jose Mercury News journalist Dean Takahashi and Shacknews editor-in-chief Chris Remo have announced plans to move on. Takahashi – author of Opening the Xbox and The Xbox 360 Uncloaked – is to devote his time to blogging on Venture Beat, a site related to Silicon Valley finance. Remo, Shacknews editorial head since 2005, hasn’t confirmed what he’s going to be up to next, but whatever it is, we wish him well.
