DayZ creator says complexity and ambiguity are positive
DayZ creator Dean Hall gave a lecture at GDC last night, in which he argued that complexity and a lack of hand-holding is positive. Letting players figure things out for themselves is a cornerstone of the game’s appeal, and will live on in DayZ Standalone he explained.

DayZ dev blog discusses zombie pathfinding and mass spawning server side
A devblog showing some in game footage of DayZ Standalone has been released. It discusses a solution to the “zombie zig zag”, “server side mass zombie spawns, and loot spawning inside wrecks.” While the video pretty much touches on everything mentioned on the blog side of things, if you prefer to read, you can scan for information on: the inventory system, crafting, expanding the health system, the Chernarus expansion, loot spawning, and more. DayZ Standalone remade assets looks pretty sweet
Bohemia Interactive has released a pile of new character and environment images for the standalone release of DayZ. Once expected to be a simple conversion of the existing mod, the project has since blown out to a full remake, and it’s paying off, as the new assets show. Check out the images through the break. The accompanying developer update promised new content every week.
