Steam flogging Dawn of War Soulstorm cheap

dawnofwar2a7.jpg

In lieu of the Dawn of War II beta in February, Steam is offering THQ and Relic’s Dawn of War – Soulstorm at a 75 percent discount.

Remember, that all Soulstorm owners get early beta access, so there’s even more incentive in shelling out some coppers on this old classic.

Dawn of War II may receive first DLC “weeks” after launch

dawnofwar2a6.jpg

The first extra Dawn of War II content may arrive almost immediately after the game’s February 19 launch.

Game producer Mark Noseworthy confirmed the news today in a post on the title’s official site.

“As for post-launch plans,” Noseworthy said, talking of DLC in general, “we are extremely interested in working with Microsoft to offer several types of free and premium downloadable content through their Games for Windows – LIVE Marketplace.

“In fact, there may even be some DLC available during the first few weeks after the game’s released if everything goes to plan.”

No specifics were given on the content itself.

The anticipated RTS sequel was confirmed as gold yesterday.

dawnofwar2a5.jpg

Gamespot’s posted up a new look at Relic’s Dawn of War II, as well as a video interview after the break containing plenty of new in-game footage.

There’s a lot of detail in there, and it looks as though the original’s taken a heavy overhaul. Characters are upgraded throughout the campaign now, and the UI’s changed significantly over Dawn of War.

Gamespot says that, “The new game’s single-player campaign will be an intriguing experience that’s more focused on tactical elements from Relic’s own award-winning Company of Heroes, as well as hack-and-slash elements of some of the best action RPGs.”

Original Dawn of War was “very quick project,” says Tyranid man

dawnofwarii6.jpg

Jonny Ebbert, lead designer on Dawn of War II, has said the reason the Tyranid race didn’t go into the first Dawn of War because there was no time and the game’s tech was young.

“We actually wanted to put them in the original Dawn of War but it was a very quick project and the engine was new, and we weren’t sure that we could do everything with the Tyranids that we wanted to do,” he said.

“With the sequel we got our next generation engine, and we knew that we could roll out the Tyranids in a way that would be really exciting.”

The Tyranids were confirmed for Dawn of War II as THQ’s Leipzig announcement for the game. Watch Ebbert speak after the link.

GC08: Dawn of War II tyranid impressions posted

dawnofwar2a3.jpg

Gamespot’s posted up some impressions of the demo THQ’s going to give at Leipzig this week of Dawn of War II, which centres on the new tyranid race inclusion announced last night. From the piece:

Packs of smaller tyranid units may descend upon you like a swarm of insects, while more-developed patrols may be led by a psychically powerful tyrant unit that connects weaker units to the larger “synapse” intelligence. Both types of behavior unfold as described, and along with spore mines–essentially, living, floating bombs that explode on contact with a concussive blast, make for an enemy that can be both slow and menacing and startlingly fast.

Lots more through the link.
