Darksiders video focuses on War’s awesome steed, Ruin

The only thing a bad-ass demon slayer needs besides his massive sword, is an equally bad-ass horse – and that is just what War has in Darksiders.
Ruin. Black as smoke, swift as flame, his pounding hooves are drums of doom.
Okay. We didn’t come up with that, Vigil Games did, but it’s still a very cool description of War’s phantom steed. Oh, you can ride other beasts in the game as well, but none are as awesome and chill inducing as Ruin.
There’s a video below the break, and if you are not yelling “fuck yeah” at the screen afterward, then you need to watch it again.
It’s out in January. We. Cannot. Wait.

Darksiders: Ask Vigil anything you want to know about the game

Vigil has kindly allowed us to send over some questions regarding its upcoming Rapture infused action title, Darksiders.
Before we start asking the development team what it eats for breakfast, how many people have been worked to death, and why War’s horse (Ruin) does not turn him into a pile of ash as he rides it – we thought we would see if there was anything you – the readers – would like to know.
Post your questions in the comments section, and if we choose your question, you will be forever immortalized through the interview and be looked upon with awe and envy amongst your peers.
We are sending this off later today, so to get you enough reference material, click this link for a list of previous posts on the game.
Hop to it!

Darksiders gets boss movie and 10/10 from US mag
THQ’s popped over the latest Darksiders movie, this time showing various hellish bosses and the now-expected Omen strings. It looks wicked. Watch it after the break.
UK PR’s also pointed out that the first review, in US mag Play, has awarded the action game 10/10, calling it, “One of the most visually refined immersive and altogether robust video game experiences available on any system.”
Big words. It’s out on January 8 for 360 and PS3.

Darksiders will use souls instead of coin for currency

THQ has piled D’toid with loads of stuff on Darksiders: Wrath of War, along with some really hot new screens and a video.
Apparently, War will be able to acquire weapons and upgrades through the exchange of souls instead of currency.
See, souls are good for something other than controlling through the use of Jasmine infused candles and plucked hen feathers.
Oops. We said too much.

Midway’s Mark Cook joins THQ as marketing manager for UK and Europe

THQ has hired former Midway exec Mark Cook as its new marketing manager for UK and Europe and plans to start marketing titles earlier as a new global strategy.
Cook will be in charge of marketing for Darksiders: Wrath of War, where he will spearhead the seven-month marketing campaign leading up to the January release of the PS3 and Xbox 360 action title.
“We decided early on that it was important to own a space with the release of Darksiders,” Cook told MCV. “Releasing in January allows us to build anticipation for the title, engage consumers with the Darksiders brand through the peak period and set the tone for 2010 as the first major release of the year.
“Key asset drops and events will be supported with targeted media across online, print, social networks & TV as we begin the Countdown to Armageddon.
“We will also be taking advantage of new and innovative ways to engage our consumers, like the VidZone activity we we will be using to support the Comic-Con drive this month.”

THQ releases new video for Darksiders: Wrath of War

THQ has released a new video full of CGI goodness for Darksiders: Wrath of War.
The game’s set in a post apocalyptic demon filled world where the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse have been betrayed, stripped of all powers, and cast down to Earth.
Players take on the role of the first of the Four Horsemen, War, as he goes on a rampage filled with vengeance and revenge with his phantom horse Ruin – which looks like a totally bad-ass euqine to be honest.
The open-world game is expected sometime in January 1, 2010.
Watch it over on Eurogamer France.

THQ to cut $220 million in spending for the year

THQ said this week that its plans to cut $220 million in spending for the just-started financial year are now in action.
The shutting down five internal studios, laying off a quarter of THQ’s workforce, trying to sell off Big Huge Games, and making Heavy Iron and Incinerator Studios defunct are all known measures.
The firm is also counting on Darksiders, Red Faction, and UFC to help line the company wallet; while changing its overall focus from quantity to quality.
To cement this new motto, THQ has halved the number of games it would normally release fro this year, says this Gamespot report.
“We have executed on our previously announced business realignment actions,” said president and CEO Brian Farrell.
“Our goal is to return to profitability and generate positive cash flow in fiscal 2010, and to position THQ for long-term sustainable and profitable growth.”
It was revealed earlier in the week that THQ tentatively plans to release Red Faction 4, Saint’s Row 3, and Warhammer 40K MMO in 2010.

New Darksiders video shows how the world ends
THQ’s posted another development diary from Darksiders: Wrath of War. The action game’s based on the OTT comic style of Joe Madureira and consists of a story involving the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and an awful lot of demo action.
It’s out next year. Video’s after the link.

Darksiders: Wrath of War surfaces in developer diary
After the link. We saw this at E3 last year, and the in-game footage from the action title in this video’s a boat-load better than it was then, let us tell you.
The THQ game was supposed to release in 2008, and virtually nothing’s been seen on it outside the LA showing last July.
Darksiders: Wrath of War is based about four horsemen of the Apolcalypse, has fighting, is developed by Vigil and is releasing for PS3 and 360, according to this movie. Take a look.
