Dante’s Inferno marketing: Heresy equals Mass We Pray

masswepray

This week, a viral video for a “game” called Mass: We Pray was released, and like most of us thought, it was a fake. A hilarious fake, nonetheless.

Turns out, it was the latest in EA marketing for Dante’s Inferno, this time instead of Wrath or Lust, it was Heresy.

When you click on the preorder spot for the game, it takes you to the page for Dante’s Inferno, so no “anointing the stick for you” or playing around with crucifix styled controllers that would make a Goth kid squeal with glee.

Heresy. The worst of all sins. Well, to some folks at any rate. This time, it’s rather hilarious.

Watch below for proof, and then click here to burn in Hell along with us and Joystiq.

Apparently, not only will BioWare show off new areas of the game, but according to a tweet by host Geoff Keighley, we’ll get to “meet and see the Illusive Man for the first time”. Cool.

Not into ME2? Well, there will also be new details on Alan Wake, new trailers for Command & Conquer 4 and Dante’s Inferno, and a review for Modern Warfare 2.

It usually airs around 12:30am EST on Spike TV, which is technically Friday morning, and snoozy time.

Dante’s Inferno was greenlighted the moment it was pitched

dantesinferno1

During EA’s Winter Showcase in West London, the EU PS Blog had a chance to sit down with the executive producer of Dante’s Inferno, Jonathan Knight.

In the chat, Knight mentioned that from the moment he pitched the idea of bringing the literary classic into the 21st century via an action game, he pretty much “got the greenlight right away”.

“The bosses of the games label at EA and the executives thought it was a great idea right away,” he revealed. “Like me, they saw the potential in the mythology and how nobody’s ever taken on that sort of medieval, christian notion of the afterlife as kind of a real place that you go to under the ground. There’s monsters and demons and rivers, and it’s just a crazy fantastical vision that Dante Aligeri had for Hell.

“My execs just immediately saw potential there for a great game.”

The video is posted passed the break, and in it, Knight also reveals what was taken literally from the text and what they took liberties with. Good stuff, there.

Dante’s Inferno demo to be released in December

dantesinferno

Visceral has announced that it’s to release a demo for Dante’s Inferno in December, which has players going through The Gates of Hell – the entire first level of the game.

Great to hear.

There’s a developer video of Heresy – the sixth circle of Hell – below the break, and in it the devs talk about how the place heretics go is indeed full of fire, brimstone, and literally Satan’s backyard.

It’s loaded with poor souls damned to Hell for all eternity, and when dealing with them you can choose to be a “total bastard or a nice guy” – the choice is up to you.

Full PR is also passed the break. It’s out in February.

Dante’s Inferno hands out “Bad Nanny” Achievement for infantcide

dantesinferno

Jonathan Knight, the executive producer for Dante’s Inferno, revealed during yesterday’s EA’s “Naughty and Nice” holiday press event that players will unlock an Achievement for killing the scary, unbaptized infants in the game.

Called the “Bad Nanny” Achievement, it is unknown how many of the babes with knives for arms you will have to slaughter to get it, but there it is anyway.

Surely someone out there will find fault with this, but it’s not like if you tickle them you’ll be left alone.

It takes place in Hell after all.

Monster’s Ball writer to pen script for Dante’s Inferno

dantesinferno123

Visceral Games has announced, via press release, that the Academy Award-nominated writer of Monster’s Ball, Will Rokos, is penning the storyline for Dante’s Inferno.

“Taking such a naturally rich and deep universe and adapting for the video game has been one of the most interesting and challenging projects I’ve worked on,” said Rokos. “I really got into re-imagining Dante as a flawed hero with a dark past, and his determination to save the love of his life from a terrible fate.

“It was a truly unique experience to re-create one man’s hell, one circle at a time.”

Rokos will be collaborating with the game’s creative team to craft an all new narrative that parallels the original poem, and is set to be released in North America February 9, 2010 and Europe on February 12 on PS3, PSP, and Xbox 360.

Dante’s Inferno producer says comparisons to God of War are a compliment

dantesinferno

The writer, producer, and director for Dante’s Inferno, Jonathan Knight, has told PlayStation: The Official Magazine that it’s a compliment for the game to be compared to God of War.

“We never get sick of hearing it because it’s the greatest compliment we can be paid,” he told the mag. “We hope to be worthy of that. Those guys are at the top of their game and there’s no question God of War III is going to be spectacular. I’ll be the first in Line to get it.

“I hope those comparisons are being made because of our combat system and is just as responsive; the control over the character is very immediate, it’s very fast-paced, you can branch out of moves very easily, you feel very powerful and overall is a very fun game to play.”

You can read the full thing in the latest issue of PTOM.
